moon

Agnes and Soda were so close that Soda felt he would remember her smell for the rest of his life: matches and honey. Such a combination never would've crossed his mind but it was the scent he didn't know he needed. She was tucked into him, fiddling with their intertwined fingers, staring up into the universe, mentally naming each star.

"I named the big thing Sodapop," she says, pointing to the moon.

"The moon?"

She chuckled and nodded, ignoring how ridiculous it probably sounded to him. "I just thought of how much I look at the moon and I love following it. I always smile at the moon. Kinda like the way you smile at me." She couldn't see the shade his cheeks turned under the moonlight but she noticed him grinning and looking directly at her. "Like that."

"Do you smile at me the way you smile at the moon?"

"I smile at you like you are the moon."
