I looked toward him. The cards spread out in his hands. It was a joke. He was playing me. I dipped my hands amongst the cards and pulled it out of the others. He looked back at the cards and requested my card back face down. He placed it on the bottom of the pile and shuffled them. Looked away and spread the cards again. I chose another one. He looked back and I handed him the face down card again and shuffled. He spread the cards down across his little table, spreading them around in a circle, he closed his eyes and picked up one card. It was the first card I had chosen.

“Is this your card?” he asked. I nodded. Then with a move of his fingers a card moved out from behind the one he was holding. It was the second card I had chosen.

“And how about this one?” I nodded again. “I told you, didn’t I.” he said smugly. “Now, where do you want to go?”
