The King of Asante is cherished ,honoured and respected in every possible ways. This is because the King is the father and leader of the people.
💛The King is chosen from the ' Oyoko' family .The ' Oyoko' family is known to be the royals .The Queen is also from this family.
💛A new King is chosen when the reigning King die.
💛The King is trained and is sworn in with the special sword called'Mponponsuo'. This sword is not to be seen by a woman.
💛The new King is suppose to do the final funeral rites of the deceased King.
💛The King sits in a palanquin(Apakan) during occasions .The Apakan is carried by four strong men.
💛The King is served by many people .The cooks in the palace are called ' Soodoofour' .The guards known as ' Abrafour ' are to guard the King and all the people in the palace .The Chiefs in the palace helps the King in decision making .
💛The King is suppose to marry as many wives as he want. Usually the Kings marry one or two wives .
💛There are also the" nkwonnwa yere", they are the wives attached to the throne. When a new King is sworn in, he is to decide whether he will marry these ladies in addition his wife or wives.
💛The King is addressed the first born of the " Oyoko" family .This is " Oyoko Piesie" .
💛The King live in the Palace which is situated at "MANHYIA".
💛The offsprings of the King can not succeed the King because the Asantes practice the matrilineal family system. The nephews of the King are the ones who are eligible to succeed him.
💛The King has the Chief linguist who is his mouthpiece .
💛At occasions, no one is suppose to be seen in the same cloth as the King.Due to this, the King has his special kente weavers who weave for him unique kente designs you will not see anywhere.
💛The King wears the kente cloth with " Ahenemma" slippers. He also wears golden ornaments.
