A year later and I was a brand new person. Literally. I had red hair instead of blonde and blue eyes instead of green. I didn't purposely kill myself, I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It was all over the news, how someone broke into Delphine's mansion and supposedly kidnapped her. No. Whoever it was tried to kill me, they ran before I could figure out who it was. That's how I ended up with a new face. I ran before the police showed up because gold mist was starting to flow out of my mouth as I breathed.
I ran then hid in the cabin I kept secret from everybody that was hidden in the woods. It was a place for me to get away from everyone, and now it was my saving grace. Once inside I couldn't run any longer a bright gold light shot out in front of my eyes.
I was confused and I passed out for a while. When I woke up and looked in a mirror I saw a different face, but one that belonged to me. One that was the new me. The one that belonged to the Witness. I would no longer be Delphine Chevrolet, but I couldn't easily get rid of the name I had grown used to.
I found some device that allowed me to travel through time and some other very useful technology I never noticed until now. Maybe it was having the key or glasses with me but they seemed to unlock every secret that I had hidden from myself. All except the note. The note was the biggest mystery in my mind.
"How'd you get here? Who are you?"
When I blinked I was in the Tardis and I could hear the familiar voice of the Doctor. I spun around to see him with his screwdriver pointed at me cautiously. I smiled widely but it dropped when I realized what he said.
"You don't recognize me?"
"I've never seen you before in my life" he said then muttered, "Why do strange people keep showing up in the Tardis?"
I smile once again. "Oh. Whoops, my mistake. I'm Del"
"Del? Del who?"
"It used to be Delphine Chevrolet but I dropped that name. I prefer just Del"
"It can't be. Delphine Chevrolet was kidnapped, people are thinking she's dead because she was never found"
"Why do you think she was never found? She doesn't exist anymore. I am what is to become of Delphine Chevrolet"
"How do I know it's you?"
"Well I'm the Witness, and we both know nobody except us knows about the Witness. Although I still don't have her memories I've gained some new ones"
"Why not stick with the name Delphine?"
"I don't look like her anymore, I can't just steal her name"
"But you are her"
"I used to be her. Now I'm a different person"
"So you've been travelling?"
"Since I met and left you I've been familiarizing myself with some time lord things. I searched myself up on the internet and I'm happy to say there is no information about me, well in human terms anyway. I'm actually known across the galaxy, in some places as a hero, in others no such luck. But nobody knows who I am because of the regeneration"
"But how are you here?"
"Oh, I found this bracelet" I tell him, showing him the bracelet on my wrist.
"That's a time ring"
"I know"
"How?"
"When I found it, in a cabin in my actual universe and time, there was a note with it, telling me what it was and how to work it. Pretty stylish, more compact than your Tardis"
"Don't talk bad about her!"
"I'm not. She is more of a home to you though, I haven't got one of those anymore... anyway what were you asking?"
"How did you find me? I could've been anywhere in time and space, yet you're here in the same time as I am"
"I guessed?"
"No you didn't, it's impossible, there's too many possibilities"
I shrug and mumble. "Maybe I just tracked down the Tardis and had the bracelet take me here"
"How did you track her down? In flight?"
"So many questions"
"How?"
"I used the sunglasses, after I figured out how to work them. Took me a while but here I am"
"But you ended up in the Tardis, that's impossible"
"You say so many things are impossible but you don't know the beginning of the possibilities beyond your imagination"
"How long did it take you?"
"Oh about a year"
"You've been through everything by yourself?"
"Well I've got nobody, so yeah. The regeneration wasn't too bad, I was unconscious for a couple days but it all worked out"
He smiled, hugging me. "Oh, Delphine, you're brilliant"
"It's Del, and thank you, although I wouldn't think I am. I'm still mostly a normal person" I respond, standing still as he hugged me.
"A normal person who became a time lord once again" he cupped my cheeks in his hands and inspected my face, his eyes stopping when they were looking into mine. "You're figuring everything out on your own. Only a brilliant person can do that"
"What are you up to now? You aren't just sitting around in the Tardis, waiting for danger to find you... are you?"
"No. Danger has already found me" he said with a bigger smile than before.
He let go of my cheeks and ran towards the door. I chased after him, stopping him before he opened it.
"I-I remember" I whisper.
"You what?"
I blinked a couple times then stared into his eyes. For some reason, maybe it was the Tardis, I remembered every creature that ever lived and I knew every language possible, well almost. It would be impossible to know everything, but it was close to it.
"I remember everything"
"You remember being the Witness?!"
"No. Not my memories, but everything that's out there, I think the Tardis helped with that. Well on to the danger. They're gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out they're screwing with the wrong people" his eyebrows scrunched together. "It's from the walking dead"
"It is you! Delphine Chevrolet!"
"I told you it was"
"Right! Now, on we go then. Let's go show them who they're dealing with"
