The Witness is a person of legend. The one who tried to assassinate the creator of the Daleks. The one who tried to wipe out all Dalek kind. The one who traveled by herself for hundreds of years with nothing by her side but her own stories.
"What did that robot actually say to you?" The Doctor asks.
"What?"
"You know, those robots with the viruses. The day you erased my memory"
"It was a message from myself. Past self"
"What did you say?"
"I said something about shadows and then my life is, but then it got cut off. I think, I was trying to say my life isn't complete. Because something, some part of me, is hidden in the shadows under lock and key, buried in my thoughts that I no longer have"
"Let's go look then"
"No"
"What?"
"You can't come, I need to erase your memory of me. Again"
"You don't have to do this"
"Trust me, I don't want to. But I haven't found what I was searching for. I have to, for your own good"
"My own good? You're the one that's running"
"I'm running from your memory because I know if you remember you'd come after me and stop me from doing this. I'm only following orders"
"Who's orders?"
"Mine"
"Why? Del, I don't want you to leave again. When you did it the first time I felt empty, and I felt something when I saw your eyes again on Midnight"
"You'll never know the endless nights, the rhyming of the rain or how it feels to fall behind and watch you call her name"
"No. I'd rather remember than forget"
"I know what happens if you don't forget. You come after me and stop me from finding what I need. Your memory will be safe in this, so I can return it later if I need to" I said, showing him the watch. "I'm going to get whatever it is I need to find. Maybe it will help me make sense of this crazy scavenger hunt I was sent on"
"It could be dangerous"
"I bare my skin, and I count my sins, and I close my eyes, and I take it in. Goodbye Doctor, I'll see you in the future"
His hand went to the back of my neck, pulling my face closer to his. Our lips touched and there was this spark, but I couldn't let that spark stop me from doing what had to be done. When we pulled away the Doctor rested his forehead against my own.
"Don't. Del, I love you" he whispered.
I smile sadly and peck his lips. "Let's see how you feel when you forget me"
The Witness doesn't love. There are no hearts in her chest. She killed her own family. She's emotionless. Ruthless. Careless. Mindless. She would destroy anything that got in the way of her traveling because she could.
But what nobody knew was that she hid her real self away. In a fob watch like the one she carried around with the Doctor's memory of her in it. Everything she knew about her family and the Doctor was hidden inside her own little watch.
But which watch was it?
Only time could tell when she'd find it.
Trapped in the dark, slammed all the locks, death calls my name and it seems I've been buried alive.
Dark.
Locks.
Death.
Name.
Buried.I was right. What I had hidden away in the past was my own memories. The ones of my loved ones that held me back while traveling. The ones that made me want to return to them.
But I took those memories and buried them, under lock and key. In the dark shadows of my mind ruled by death. The death of millions of species. The death of my memories. That's where not only my memories, but name lied.
Everywhere I searched. Nowhere I could find.
Then, at last, the only place I'd never think to look. Owned by the one person I needed to forget me.
The Tardis had what I needed.
The watch was in the library of the Tardis. It took me a while to find it because the library was massive and the Doctor showed up. He stole the watch, but not the one I found, the one with his memories in it, as I ran.
My time bracelet brought me to the 1500's where it finally gave out. With no means of teleportation back to the future I was stuck. So, I lived my life, changing my face every now and then to keep people from becoming suspicious. Now here I was, on my 9th regeneration, waiting for it to happen.
I had nothing to do but wait for myself to regenerate. While I waited for my body to be transformed the watch in my hand drew me in, silently telling me to open it. That's what I did. A light flew out of the watch, hitting my face.
I was filled with all these memories of who I actually was and for a moment, before all my memories of being the Witness were sucked into the fob watch. In the short moment when I had both sets of memories I realized my whole past was made up. Something to hide the buried truth.
Anything about me being the Witness was gone, in the fob watch where I forgot all about it. She was no longer the person I knew in my brain. Everything I had been through with the Doctor, as the Witness, was dead.
I had a new face, new mind, new memories.
"Oh, new face again. Whoa, I'm British! Never been British before!"
Including a new name.
I was the Revenant.
