She was sitting outside, alone. But she was not truly alone. There were stars hanging in the sky by some odd force. Stars that shined and winked and dazzled at her. She smiled at them. She felt that she was almost not alone, but, in the dullness which is reality, she was. It was a realization she had come head first to before, so, perhaps, that was the reason as to why she did not feel startled nor scared or saddened at the thought. She was alone, but the stars kept her company.
He gazed up at the same set of stars. He realized just how small he was, that these stars may have been bigger than even the planet he lived on. He was a small, nearly insignificant thing, but, at the same time, he felt more connected to everything more than he ever had before. The stars hung in the sky, seemingly motionless, just as Paul felt, but he knew the Earth spun. He was spinning, yet he found comfort in that fact. He was spinning out of his control, but he was not afraid. He knew that someone else had their own eyes on the same set of stars, and he felt a strange emotion in that thought. He did not discourage it, and instead sunk into it. It was a comfortable thought, and he welcomed it.
They watched the stars, alone yet enjoyed each other's company, even as they were not aware of it.
