Chapter 18

"W-Whoa!" I was learning how to balance with the wires. Man, this is so difficult.

"Just take it nice and slow. Try not to fall on your face." Levi warned. He was leaning against the fence, drinking a cup of tea.

"With all due respect, I'm not freakishly talented like you. I'm not sure how to do this...!" I blurted, trying not to fall.

"It's not all about talent. It's just getting used to relying on your 3DM gear to keep you in balance. I've seen people who acted cocky when practicing, and they ended up cracking their skulls. You're not as bad as you think you are." Levi explained.

"I appreciate the advice sir, but I'm still not sure how to w-w-work... this...!!" I immediately fell, landing on the back of my head. "Gugh!! Owe!!" I cried out. Levi let out a sigh, putting his cup down and walking over. I tried pushing myself up but with the position it was impossible for me. Levi stood in front of me looking down with his arms crossed.

"You rely too much on your own body. Instead of worrying about staying balanced, focus on looking forward. It's like learning how to walk. No special tricks, just take it slow. This time, look forward and move around like you would if you were dancing." Levi explained. He grabbed my shoulders and helped me back up.

"Right!"

Soon enough, I did exactly what he said. And by surprise, it became easy as walking.

"Yahoo!!" I cheered. My excitement got the better of me, because I fell back into the same position.

"Idiot." Levi said.

"Yeah I deserve that one." I mumbled, standing on my feet.

"How do you hope to get anywhere in life if all you do is fall?"

I stopped, and my gaze dropped to the ground.

"What was..."

Levi walked over and saw I had a horrific expression.

"What's the matter?" He asked. I placed my hand over my face.

"No... Not now..." I mumbled.

"(y/n)! What's wrong?" Levi questioned, stepping forward.

"I'm sorry, it's just a headache." I answered.

"You're useless and weak. You might as well be titan food."

"Ugh...!" I ran my fingers through my hair as another voice echoed in my head.

"Just hurry up and die!"

Suddenly a horrific image popped into my head. It was like I was in the perspective of someone, looking up at these men, who were looking down at me. They had grins on their faces.

I turned around and took a few steps forward.

"(y/n)! Answer me!" Levi grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back. I bumped into his shoulder.

"No!! Let me go!! Please!! Father!!! MOTHER!!!!!"

The sound of a little girl was screaming in my head.

"mot...her....?"

Suddenly, my eyelids felt heavy and I lost control of my body. I began to collapse. Before I hit the ground, Levi caught me.

"(y/n)! (y/n)!!" Levi shouted.

His voice became distant and soon I heard nothing.
