There was no point in us staying, since there were no survivors. We arrived back at midnight and Levi left to find Erwin to report what had happened. I returned to the room alone with my thoughts. I was still shocked with what I found out.
"He's his nephew...?" I wondered, pressing my palm on my forehead.
I should have known earlier, I mean they do share the Ackerman name. I guess I just told myself it was a coincidence, and I didn't want to believe anything else.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
Why is someone knocking at this hour?
I walked to the door and opened it to see an MP soldier.
"Uh, Doctor Zaki?" He asked, nervously.
"Yes?" I replied.
"I'm deeply sorry to disturb you at this hour, but... a man stopped by asking me to give you this." He explained, holding out a small box. I grabbed it and examined the outside.
"Who was it from?" I asked, looking back at the soldier.
"He didn't give a name, he just said that whatever it is, it will be important to you." He explained.
"Important...? Um, thank you very much." I praised, giving a smile. He smiled back and saluted.
"Good night, ma'am!" He then walked off. I closed the door and walked over to a table, placing the box down.
"What could it be?" I asked myself, crossing my arms.
Suddenly the door opened again, startling me. I quickly turned around and saw it was Levi. I let out a relieving sigh.
"How did it go?" I asked.
"Fine I guess." He replied. He walked over to me and saw the box sitting on the table. "What is that?" He asked.
"I don't know. An MP just gave it to be saying someone else delivered it. I don't know who, but they said it would be important to me." I replied.
"You haven't opened it?"
I shook my head and put my hands on the box.
I opened it and what I saw made me gasp.
A syringe, a vile and a note. I picked it up and began reading, with Levi's head poking over my shoulder.
Dear (y/n),
I know you have many questions, and I wish I could give the answers to. However, I know you are mad for what I have done to you, and I don't expect you to forgive me anytime soon. I am aware you have an intimate relationship with an Ackerman, and there's nothing I can say to stop you. Instead, I want to give this to you as a gift. It's a syrim that will allow you to live as a normal human. You won't have to worry about your titan abilities, or your thirteen years running out. However, if you do decide to take this, you will no longer be able to heal as quickly, which means once you die, there is no coming back. It's up to you, whatever you decide.
And by the way, your mother would have wanted me to give you something else since she couldn't. Under the seal is a box with a pair of rings. They hold great meaning to the Fritz and the Ackerman's. The Fritz Family is the only Nobel family that had a good relationship and didn't try to kill each other. Your mother was acquainted with an Ackerman, and that is why I treated Kuchel's illness for as long as I did. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to fully cure her, so instead of wasting my time, she requested that I stopped treating her.
