She glanced down at the phone clutched in her hand, and she didn't know what had compelled her to, but the urge came over with a sudden force. With trembling fingers, Amara dialled a number on the mobile phone, and brought the phone to her ear as it began ringing.
"Please answer," she prayed but the ringing soon cut off.
She dialled again and waited as the phone rang but remained unanswered and when the last ring cut off, a computerised voice immediately followed, asking her to leave a message.
In the background, the tolling of the church suddenly grew more pronounced.
