Lucy was still in deep thought about the cake situation. She kept debating to herself if she should eat it, or not. Her mom came in the house. Her jeans were covered in dirt from doing yard work. "Hi, sweetie!" her mom sang. "How was school?"

"Oh, hi, Mom!" said Lucy. "School was okay. Just the usual. Doing classwork, lunch, nothing special."

"I see," said her mom. "You see that chocolate cake there?"

"Yes, I see it," nodded Lucy. "Can I have some, please?"

"No, you can't," said her mom.

"Why not?" asked Lucy.

"Because that cake is for me only," said her mom in a stern tone.

"I understand," said Lucy, downcast. "Enjoy your cake."

"I was just joking, sweetie!" giggled her mom. "You can have some cake too!"

"Mom, you had me fooled!" laughed Lucy.

"I sure did!" chuckled her mom. "Let's eat the cake together!"

"Yay!" exclaimed Lucy. "I love you, Mom!"

"Aw, I love you too, babe!" said her mom, with love in her eyes. So, they both had some chocolate cake together, and they enjoyed it.
