The lab was already at a bad state when the god and female assassins walked in..
"I was wrong, Director. The world hasn't changed a bit." Steve stated in a lecture tone of voice.
"Did you know about this?" Bruce asked Natasha, already a little on edge.
"You wanna think about removing yourself from this environment doctor." Natasha suggested, taking a few steps in his direction.
"I was in Calcutta." He reminded her. "I was pretty well removed."
"Loki is manipulating you." She got a bit closer to him so that he know that she in't the enemy.
"And you've been doing what exactly." He countered while taking a few steps backwards to avoid her.
"You didn't come here because I bat my eyelashes at you."
"Listen I'm not leaving because suddenly you get a little twitchy." Bruce's voice raised a bit and he pointed at the transparent computer. "I'd like to know why S.H.I.E.L.D is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction."
Everyone's attention went to the one-eyed director for an answer. "Because of them." He finally responded, pointing at Thor and Astra.
"Me?" The two pointed to themselves in sync as they looked very confused.
"A year ago Earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town." Fury explained. "We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously outgunned. Just look at Astra, she herself is a weapon."
"Our people want nothing but peace with your planet." Thor defended.
"But you're not the only people out there are you?" Fury pointed out. "And you're not the only threat."
"Then I think you should be thankful that I am fighting for you, and not for those 'threats'." Astra butt in, finger quoting the word threats.
"The world's filling up with people who can't be matched. That can't be controlled." Fury finished.
"Like you controlled the cube?" Steve asked.
"Your work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it, and his allies." Thor blamed. "It is a signal to all the realms if Earth is really for a higher form of war."
"A higher form?" Steve shoulders tensed at that. After all, he had only been unfrozen for about 2 weeks. In his mind World War 2 just happened.
"You forced our hand." Fury defended. "We had to come up with some-"
"A nuclear deterrent?" Astra interrupted as she shook her head slowly.
"Cause that always calms everything down." Tony continued what she was saying sarcastically.
"Remind me again how you make your fortune Stark." Fury come-backed.
