He came to the library again today, like he does everyday, but this time, he was late. And when he did arrive, his cheeks were flushed, and his lip was bloody.
His azure eyes were glazed over, and when he looked around, he seemed to be in a daze.
My eyes met his and for the first time, he smiled. It wasn't a huge grin, but a small, almost shy smile. And I returned it.
He didn't choose a book today, and he didn't sit in his normal seat. Instead, he made his way over to me.
And my breathing suddenly stopped and I felt frozen. I had become custom to his routine, and this was entirely foreign to me. My whole body became numb and for the first time, I felt nervous to be in his presence.
