Rey POV
I jump awake from the sound of clanging door. I'm disorientated and my leg hurts and my back aches. Where am I? What happened?
I turn my head to see a shadow crouching by the bench. A posture I know too well, a posture that should scare me. Yet, it seems oddly inviting. "Ben," I whisper.
"Rey," he says, his voice croaking slightly. A blur of seemingly distant memories hit me with a seemingly distant sense of fear. I think back to the first time I met Kylo, in the forest and I know his story won't end here in the First Order.
I realise the Resistance base was just attacked. "Why am I here?" I ask.
"So our enemies will be weak against us," he replies, his dark hair swaying as he stands up. "You don't believe me?"
I attempt to stand, only to crumble downwards from the piercing pain in my leg. Ben kneels next to me and repeats his words but it's all muffled. I can feel his breath on my cheek and his eyes on my scar from our last encounter. I feel his skin on mine, pulling me up back onto the cold bench. My eyes rise to meet his and an impulse to touch his lips makes my cheeks flush with colour.
"It's hard to believe that dark pair of pretty eyes would want to make enemies with anyone," I say finally, our faces still only inches from each other.
"What you believe is only what u want to believe," Ben says, his voice somehow calming and soft. His fists suddenly clench with tension, "An example would be your belief that the flyboy pilot is a good person. He is anything but good."
I am suddenly shocked, and move away from Kylo. Not because of what he said, but because of how he said it. He sounded almost...jealous or afraid. There is so much more fear in him than I thought.
He then walks towards the door of the cell and opens it, but stops before walking out. "The dress my mother gave you suits you. But it's a dress of royalty and you're anything but royalty," he spits the words, then walks out as the doors shut with a clang. The words stung, but I was still in a daze from all the previous sensations that I didn't hear them all. He didn't bring me here to speed up the destruction of the Resistance. I know that and I'll prove it.
