My bedroom in Alex's house was exactly how I left it . It was weird having so much space , for the past few weeks my personal space had been reduced to a bunk and a press over the TV in the back lounge .
Rian and Pommie were already in the house when we arrived , and had been briefed by Matt .
“It's going to be -” Rian began when we got home , but Alex silenced him with a look and after that we all ignored the elephant in the room .
Alex ordered pizza , and we turned on some TV in effort to put our minds off it .
“I could really use some pepperoni right now” I said , trying to lighten the mood . Alex smiled at me gratefully .
“I thought you said you hated that stuff” He said .
“I guess you won our bet” I smiled , and he laughed , passing me a pizza slice .
“Too bad I didn't put money on it” Alex said , “Or maybe I did and I just can't remember .”
I shrugged . “I'm broke anyway .”
We laughed quietly , before our conversation died out .
Over the next few days we became more and more silent . We were homing in on the trial , the first trial – our new lawyer said there would probably be two , maybe even three . As the days got closer and closer I spent more time locked in my bedroom , strumming gently on my guitar . I wanted to spend my time with Alex , because these could be our last few days together , but I was scared . I was scared that I'd look at him and wouldn't recognise him anymore – that he'd just be Alex Gaskarth , singer of All Time Low , not my best friend , my legal guardian , my dad . That's what he was to me now , a father . It was weird but I liked it . Hell , I loved it . I wanted him to be my dad forever .
It wasn't just Alex I didn't want to see though . Around the house , some people had become permanent features . John , for one , was constantly there , as was Mr Sullivan , our lawyer . Witnesses for our cause frequently visited to go over their parts for the trial , as well as friends who were just trying to be supportive .
“Hey “ Rian said gently , knocking on my door . I sprung up and opened it for him .
“Hey .”
“I brought you some food , I figured you'd be hungry” Rian said , and I shrugged .
“Thanks” I said , taking the tray from him . “How's it going downstairs ?”
“We should have a good fight tomorrow , if that's what you mean” Rian answered . “How's it going upstairs ?”
I sat down on my bed and sighed . “I remember sleeping in here for the first time . I was so happy . I wish we could just rewind back to that night , you know ?”
Rian nodded . “I'd set that whole week on replay” He agreed .
“It was great . And now ...”
“Now you might get taken away from us” Rian finished . “But you know what Hazel ? I don't think you will . Because from what I've heard , your dad is a dick and since when were dicks allowed to have kids ?”
“Once they ejac-”
“Don't even think about it” Rian interrupted , glaring at me . “I swear you have a dirtier mind than Jack .”
I laughed . “I don't think that's possible , but thanks for trying to cheer me up Ri .”
“Don't forget the sandwich” He added with a smirk .
