"Are you gonna even touch your tomato soup?" The dark haired boy asked Elodie, pointing at her untouched bowl with his spoon. She passed it over to him and he looked at her surprised.

"You haven't eaten for a few days Els." Luke wore a concerned face and took the bowl from Aris and passed it back to his sister.

"I'm not hungry." She slumped back on the backless bench and stared down at her hands.

"Eat the damn soup El!" Alex commanded, everyone at their table and even others from surrounding ones went silent. Elodie almost jumped at the harshly worded order, she immediately grabbed her spoon and slurped her soup. She only then realised how hungry she was.

After narrowly escaping the grievers, the three Group C members were then salvaged by some soldiers on the right side and they were brought to this clean facility, where they were given good food, clean water and a luxuriously nice roof over their heads.

But that didn't stop Elodie from feeling the intense guilt from the attack and the great loss she felt from all the people she had lost. Luke got over it pretty quickly, but Elodie knew he wore a happy facade on top of his real emotions. Alex had been devastated and a wreck at first, but also got over it quickly, or as it seemed.

The rest of the dinner was quiet, no one spoke. Only the sound of quiet sips were heard from around the table.

Suddenly, the sliding metal door opened and in came new faces that Elodie was yet to recognise. Four new arrivals entered through, all boys. They moved quick, too quick for Elodie to take in any of their appearances. She saw them sit at a table diagonal to her own.

At Elodie's table, glances were thrown across the table, she kept her eyes down on her soup.

As they continued their meal, another new arrival walked through the door; he had significantly long black hair and had a somewhat athletic build. The boy walked to where his fellow newbies were sitting and plopped down next to them.

"I think they're the ones." Aris stated, all eyes on him.

"To do what exactly?" Luke questioned, while he was swishing his floppy cornbread in his red, chunky soup.

Elodie had decided to take another look at the boys, to see if she could feel how Aris felt.

That's when one of them also chose to look at Elodie's table.

He had sandy blond hair and tired charcoal eyes. His jaw was quite square and his body was quite tall and muscular but thin.

Their met eyes for a second and Elodie felt heat rise to her cheeks as she looked away from the quite cute looking boy.

"Help break us the fuck out of here." Aris' voice had lowered in volume

"Why would you wanna leave?"

"There's something that's wrong with this place, am I the only one who feels it?" Aris looked around the cafeteria suspiciously.

"You're not the only one Aris." Alex spoke up, but still kept a quiet volume "I think there's something off about Janson."

As if on queue, the infamous thin man entered the room. He held a clear clipboard with one piece of paper attached, a list of names were written and those 'lucky people' would be transported to a safer location. Elodie has never wanted to be on that list and she also wished that her friends wouldn't be chosen, as she felt like they were being taken somewhere else.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. You all know how this works, if you hear your name being called, please rise in an orderly fashion and join my colleagues behind me where they escort you to the Eastern Wing. Your new lives are about to begin."

Despite their small quarrel, Alex and Elodie's hands found each other and they squeezed them tight. Elodie always felt uneasy during this part of the night and her best friend had always been their for her.

"Matthew

Layla

James

Evie

Sarah"

"Alex"

Elodie's heart dropped down to her shoes, she didn't hear the rest of the names being called. She felt Alex tighten her grip as she stood up and bent down to hug her best friend.

"I'll see you soon Els."

She gave one last longing look with glossy eyes and left the room with the line of other kids chosen.

Everyone was speechless again, but for a different reason. Their planning had come to a halt with a huge roadblock and no one knew what to say or do.

She's safe, Elodie tried to convince herself in her head, but she still felt like Alex was in danger.

"Teresa!"

Elodie was snapped out of her thoughts by the desperate cry from the other side of the room. The new arrival was out of his seat and at the window, following his friend who was on the other side and being escorted by guards.

"Hey, hey, hey!" The guard standing at the door tried to calm the boy down.

"Where' re they taking her?" Elodie could sense his worry from the other side of the room.

"Just have to run a few more tests." The guard stated, "Don't worry, they will be done with her soon."

"Is she ok?"

"She's fine"

Elodie felt lonely in her bunk, everyone had left one way or another. She had been put with the Group B people who arrived at the same time as her group had arrived.

The first nights were still and awkward. Alex and Elodie kept to themselves and only interacted with each other and the Group B people; Sonya, Harriet and Rachel, all stayed in a group and did the same. An invisible line was basically drawn across the bunk.

But after those first nights, the group started to bond and that's how they met Aris. They became very close knit and confessed everything to each other, played truth or dare and had vicious pillow fights. They had felt like normal girls in the normal world.

Sonya and Harriet had found a way out of the facility and invited the rest of the girls to join them, but they declined because they were hesitant and scared. They left anyway and Elodie has never seen them since. Rachel was called and she left Aris very tearfully, and triggered Elodie's suspicion and fear of their so-called saviors.

Now that Alex had left, it was just her in the quiet room. She sat on the uncomfy and tough mattress that was covered by a pale green sheet.

As Elodie laid down and covered herself in starchy blankets she looked at the surrounding beds; Sonya had slept right across from her, they always made distorted funny faces at each other before bed, Harriet was on top of her and always told everyone to shut up, Alex was always moving around and talking to Elodie about random things and Rachel was always asleep on the bed diagonal from them.

Now it was just silent and lifeless.

A single tear fell from Elodie's watery eyes as she closed them and sleep took over her body.
