Emily's POV

"Hey mom?" I half-yell walking into the kitchen.

She turns her head to look at me and says, "Yes, Hun?"

I let out a small laugh and ask, "Can I have some Mac and cheese?"

I put on my cutest puppy dog look when I saw her laughing at me.

My mom shrugged, then exited the kitchen into the living room, turning the news on.

I let out an exaggerated groan, then flopped onto the couch. "I hate the news, it's always so depressing."

She let out yet another laugh, "No news, no Mac and cheese."

I let out a sigh and tried to grab for the remote. When I did this, she playfully slapped my hand away. I thought parents were supposed to be the mature ones.

Then I got an idea. I turned off the TV.

My mom looked at me suspiciously out of the corner of her eyes. I let out a fake evil laugh.

"Hey dad! Can we have Mac and cheese for dinner?"

After a couple seconds, I shoot my mom a puzzled look.

"Dad?" I yell, standing up and walking up the stairs.

No response.

"Do you know where your father is?" Mom asked.

"I don't know. I thought he was back from-" I started

"GUYS GET IN HERE!" My father yells from upstairs.

My mom and I scramble up the stairs, and into dad's office.

With a quick glance of the room, my mom rushes out, "What's wrong?"

"Watch this."

He pointed to the tv, which had the news blaring.

"- Don't know what is causing this disease but we advise you to leave the city. The disease is caused by saliva. Caution these people are dead. Do not try to communicate. If infected please barricade yourself from others."
