Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it.
His POV:
'Fellow Canadians. Our country has now entered the coldest day in history. We advise you to stay indoors and keep warm for the meantime. It has been said that from here on out, it'll be extremely cold for the next month. Non-stop cold-.'
As the last second passed by, I turned off the t.v. Fearing if everything was going to okay. I've faced harsh, cold days before, but nothing compared to this. It makes me worry about my people and me. And...
(Y/n)!
I quickly pulled out my phone and dialed her number.
Please pick up... please pick up...
No response. I dialed again and got the response I needed.
"Hello?" Her sweet, soothing voice responded to me.
"Oh, maple! Are you okay? You saw the news, right?" I asked frantically.
"Yeah, of course. Hard to believe it, huh? And to think that we were going out today. Things can change in a split-second." She laughed quietly.
I agreed with her. "But most importantly, are you warm?"
She sighed. "I'm going to honest with you. All of my heaters stopped working this morning. I'm freezing. Not to mention I don't have any of my blankets. They're being washed right now. But I have as much clothing on me as possible! I'll be fine. Going outside isn't an option either."
My heart sunk to my stomach.
"You... I... I'm coming over...!" I exclaimed, standing up.
"No, don't! I know you can't die, but I know you can still feel pain. Please don't. There's a blizzard outside too. It's not worth it..."
I slammed my fist on the coffee table. Making the glass shatter into thousands of pieces.
"What was that?!"
"Nothing..." I answered, my voice trembling.
"Oh, man. I've been shivering like crazy and feeling drowsy. My pulse is really weak too..."
The stages of hypothermia... please no... it's been going on since this morning. It's already 5:30 pm.
"Maple... you're going to..."
She chuckled. "I know. Hypothermia. I never thought it would end like this."
"Don't say that! You'll be okay! I'm calling an ambulance!"
"Matthew... I'm not going to make it in time... I just want you to know that spending time with you was the greatest thing to have ever happened to me. You're as sweet as a stack of pancakes covered in maple syrup, you're adorable, strong, kind, and so many other things I can't put into words. You and Kuma have always been by each other's side and I hope it'll stay that way for as long as possible. Thank you for everything and I'll always love you. No matter where I am or where you go... always and... fore... ever."
I could hear the sound of a phone drop. I immediately called the emergency number, but it didn't work.
"What?! How?!" I shouted, throwing my phone on the couch. I started to hyperventilate and cry at the same time. "No... no..."
All I could do was collapse on the floor and cry my eyes out.
