JOYCE isn't the wallflower that exists everywhere.
She had always disliked the summer vacations with her parents. The places her family chose were never what she dreamed of. While her friends go to Californian Beaches, Joyce had to visit her aunt and cousin in Vancouver, which was not the best place to relax at the ocean.
To get pierced by an arrow during a walk wasn't Joyce's plan but it would've made her summer a lot easier. For example, she wouldn't have to deal with her hyper enthusiastic cousin Mary. Or argue with a flower freak about vulnerable magnolias. Or survive the horribly embarrassing questions of her aunt and Mary's friends.
Luckily there's still her best friend Natasha, who helps with a lot of things - for example realize others feelings.
"excuse me, how am I supposed to watch out for some flower, when I'm almost getting pierced by an arrow?"
