(long chapter!☺️☕️)

We get to Poor Richards, & we are greeted with flashing lights, loud music, & a bunch of drunk 22 year old girls. We look around, and all we see is a giant sea of jumping people.
Somewhere in the room a glass breaks, but no one seems to care.

I've never seen a bar packed full of people. There's a live performance from god knows who, and people are treating the bar like a concert hall.

"Oh my god!" I yell. "It's so loud!"
"I can't even hear myself think!" Jim chuckles. "Maybe we should go someplace else!" I yell up to him.
He nods to me, & we close the bar doors.

We get back into the car, & I unplug my ears.
"I'm surprised that the whole world can't hear that."
Jim laughs, taking the keys out of his pocket.

"So, I'm guessing, that the rest of the bars around Scranton are exactly like what we just walked into. Sooo, do you...want to hang out at my apartment instead?" Jim offers.

I nod.
"That sounds good." I say.
I pull out my phone, & text Erin as we back out of the parking lot.

"Hey sis! The bars are packed, so we're going to Jim's apartment instead! :)"

"Okay, noted!"

I shut off my phone screen and turn to Jim.
"I remembered you saying you wanted to talk? What's up?"

Jim rubs his neck.
"Uhm, well, can we talk about that a little later?"

"Oh! Yeah! No rush!" I reassure him.

We silently pull out of the parking lot, and head to Jim's place.

"Thanks. Oh, by the way, are you up for some coffee? Jim smiles.

My eyebrows raise. "Coffee? At 11? Aren't all of the coffee shops around here closed? And at 11?"

"Yes, and yes. Decaf is always an option."

I nod. "Oh, yeah, I forgot about decaf. Perfect. It's better than being hungover tomorrow."

"True, true. Even though tomorrow is a Sunday." Jim chuckles.

"Hey," I point to him, smiling. "being hungover any day sucks."

"I guess so!" Jim smiles.

☕️

We make our way to Jim's apartment, talking about beer & coffee creamer.

Out of all things.

Well I mean, it is what was-

Never mind.

We finally arrive, we hop out of the car, & Jim grabs his keys to unlock the door.

"Wait, now, before I unlock the door, I need you to close your eyes. I kinda have a surprise for you."

I close my eyes as tightly as I can. "A surprise? What for?"

"You'll see," Jim says, unlocking the door. "here take my hand, & follow my voice. Watch your step!"

Jim leads me inside, & a scent of fresh coffee lingers in the air.

Just like in the café.
The scent of coffee always makes me feel calm.
I actually started making my own coffee candles for myself.
It's real easy.

Maybe I should make an Etsy account.

"Alright, don't open yet, I just need to you to sit down. There's a chair right behind you," Jim says.

I reach down, trying to feel for a chair under me.

I feel nothing, so I stand straight up again.

"What? You don't trust me?"

"No, I don't," I laugh, shaking my head. "I've seen your pranks with Dwight for the past 2 months!"
Jim laughs.

"I don't think your Dwight, (y/n). C'mon, trust me."
I slowly start sitting, finally finding the chair.

"See? Now that wasn't so bad was it?"
I shake my head, smiling.
"No, no it was not."

"Alright, don't open yet! Just let me grab..." Jim veers off.
He places what I assume is a mug in front of me, & takes a seat himself.

"Alright, ready? Open in 3, 2, 1."

I open my eyes, & slowly my vision clears.

The room is dim.
Fairy lights hang around the living room, as a fake soft cracking fire emits from the TV.
I didn't know the 24/7 fire channel was still around.
Gentle music starts plays from a small speaker, hanging on the ceiling.

With duck tape.

It's a Bluetooth speaker.

I'm sitting at a fold table, & a red & white checkered table cloth is gently laid across it.
A tiny candle dances on the table, & lights up a tiny area on the checkered table cloth.

"This, is- oh my god. Jim..." I spin looking around the room.

"Do you like it?" Jim smiles.

"I-I don't know what to say. It's amazing. Why such a surprise? I don't deserve this!" I say, looking around.

"Well, I knew the all the bars around Scranton would be packed, so I...made a plan B."

"Wow...why me?" I blow on the black coffee, getting ready to take a sip. Even though I like creamer, this is too wonderful to complain about something stupid.

"Well, I just, I needed to- oh! Hold on a second! I'll be right back!" Jim hops up from his seat, & grabs something from the kitchen.

Jim comes back with a little snack wrapped in a napkin.

A chocolate chip cookie!

"I also remember that you had a chocolate chip cookie the first time I met you. But, this isn't from the coffee shop, this is from Wal-mart," Jim chuckles. "still tastes good though!"

I laugh. "Thank you! I can always go for a chocolate chip cookie at midnight." I tear it in half, & offer a piece to Jim.

"Oh, no thanks. I'm good. It was a 12 pack cookie box, aaand I had 11." Jim smiles. I laugh back.

"Well, Thank you for sharing." I say, smiling. I dip my cookie into the coffee.
"Now, what were you were you going to say...? Before you got the cookie for me?"

"Oh, yeah, right, um, the reason I-I planned all of this, for you," Jim looks around. "was to tell you, that," Jim quiets down, & looks at me, with almost a worried face.

"I think I'm in love with you."
