"𝐋𝐄𝐓'𝐒 see. . .multiple counts of destruction of private and city property. Not to mention, evading the police. You two are in a whole lot of trouble."
Barely two hours ago, we arrived in Republic City. Everything was going just great. . .of course, until my wonderful little sister decided to get us arrested because she just wanted stop some criminals, but instead of complying, she decided to escape (also, as usual, ignoring my pleads to stop and give in), which resulted in almost half of Republic City destroyed.
"But, there were some thugs threatening a helpless shop shopkeeper and I had to—"
"Can it!" The officer, who stood across from the investigation table, sternly cutted Korra off. "You should've just called the police and let them handle it."
"Look," I started with a charming and convincing smile, slowly standing up from my chair. "I'm just an innocent bystander. I have nothing to do with this, so I'm just gonna' make my way to—"
"SIT. BACK. DOWN."
"Yes, ma'am," I hastily quivered, dropping back down. With a flick of her wrist, the officer metalbended handcuffs around both of our arms to the table.
Korra scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Wow, you're such a supportive sister."
"Look, I love you, but we both know that I can't survive a day behind bars," I leaned back onto the wooden chair, a defensive scoff escaping my lips. "Besides, it's true! I did absolutely nothing! I mean—yeah, I may had been involved in the process of escaping, but I begged the loser to give in, yet she didn't listen!"
"Can you please shut up?!" Korra hissed quietly at me, before turning to the officer with a pleading look. "I couldn't just by and do nothing! It's my duty to help people. You see, I'm the Avatar!"
"You see, I'm the Avatar!" I mocked her confident tone quietly to myself before turning to her with a scrunched expression. "Spirits, you're so embarrassing."
She huffed and exasperated, "Well, what am I supposed to say?"
"I—" I pursed my lips with genuine thought before shaking my head out of frustration. "I don't know! You're always using the 'I'm the Avatar' card for every time you get in a bad situation, which makes no sense, because last time I checked, an actual Avatar can bend four elements, not three."
"You know, you're lucky my hands are locked up in these things or else—"
I gasped dramatically and cried out, "Are you threatening me, young lady?! I'll have you know, I am your older sister!"
"Young lady?" Korra repeated. "We're only three years apart—"
The officer slammed her hands on the table, scolding us to shut our mouths before turning to Korra with a tired sigh. "Oh, I am well aware of who you are," she replied, unimpressed. "And your Avatar title might impress some people, but not me."
She then turned her attention over to me. "And don't act like you're so innocent. I was informed that when my officers had caught you two, you attempted to flirt with them just to avoid arrest?"
Embarrassed at the fact that she knew, I looked over at my cuffed hands to avoid the lady's brutal stare. "It's not my fault they weren't into my amazing good looks," I murmured, genuinely bitter about the situation. "Maybe they just have different standards here in Republic City—"
"Who's the embarrassing one, now?" I heard Korra muttered bitterly to herself before raising her head towards the officer. "You know what? Fine. I want to talk to whoever is in charge."
The officer's mouth slightly, just slightly, curved up into a smirk. "You're looking at her. Chief Beifong.
"Wait, Beifong? Lin Beifong?" I queried excitedly, leaning closer. "Aren't you Toph's daughter?"
I had heard many stories from Master Katara about her long old friend, who taught Avatar Aang the element of Earth. Even though she had a visual impairment, that didn't stop her from being one of the most powerfullest earthbenders and the first ever metal bender of her time.
"Yeah, what of it?" retorted Chief Beifong, clearly sounding uninterested in any conversation.
"Well, then why are you treating me like a criminal?" Korra questioned. "Avatar Aang and your mother were friends! They saved the world together!"
"That's ancient history, and it's got diddly-squat to do with the mess you two are in right now," she snapped. "You can't just waltz in here and dole out vigilante justice like you own the place—!"
"Chief," Beifong was interrupted by a metal bender officer, who opened a peephole in the elemental door. "Councilman Tenzin is here."
She sighed deeply in what seemed to be annoyance before muttering, "Let him in."
Tenzin entered the room and took a deep inhale, putting on a hilariously charming smile. "Ah, Lin; you are looking radiant as usual."
"Cut the garbage, Tenzin." She replied bluntly. "Why is the Avatar and her sister in Republic City? I thought you were supposed to be moving down to the South Pole to train the Avatar, while her sister says put for her protection."
"My relocation has been delayed." He answered, glancing at us sternly. "The girls, on the other hand, will be heading back to the South Pole immediately."
"But—!" We both started to protest, but got cut off by his tired sigh as he looked back at Beifong. "If you would be so kind as to drop the charges against them, I will take full responsibility for today's regrettable events and cover all the damages."
She raised her eyebrows and glanced over her shoulder towards us. We both sent her bright, sheepish grins before she turned back with a defeated huff. She raised her left hand, opening the cuffs that binded mine and Korra's hands to the table. "Fine. Now, get them out of my city."
"Always a pleasure, Lin," Tenzin nodded and turned to us. "Let's go."
We followed the monk out and as we passed Beifong, she and Korra glared at each other. "Come on, Korra," I hissed, though it seemed like she didn't hear me.
Beifong points with her index and pinky at her eyes and back to Korra, continuing to glare at her. I widen my eyes as my "mature" sister mockingly mimics her gesture.
I quickly grabbed Korra's hand and rushed out of there before anything got out of hand.
