40. The Battle (part 2)

The Battle continued on between the two kingdoms, the king and his rival never once looked away from each other

It's been a few hours and hundreds have died. The sound of battle cries, swords clashing against swords and bodies falling to the ground fills the air

Alek was determined to take the lead and 'kick the kings ass' as he said before. Throwing punches at the king but he managed to dodge them all

Face to face, they continued to punch at each other. The king throwing punch after punch at Aleks face until the wizard fell on his knees

The king was ready to give the finale blow to his 'fair' opponent. But as the king came closer to his enemy he felt something on his abdomen

Alek had drawled his sword from the somehow unnoticeable sheath on his back and had pierced it through the kings stomach. At first the king wasn't effected

"do you really think this will hold me back?" the king asked with an unbothered expression on his face

"no, I knew it wouldn't... But the venom flower (vervain) can" the wizard smirked

At that exact moment the king felt a burning sensation near his wound. His insides were burning and it was slowly and painfully spreading through his body

Meanwhile from the castle window where Samantha was still watching from their shared bedroom in the highest tower, a scream was heard

"NO"

Samantha watched as Alek stabbed the king, the painful expression on her husband's face had tears already brimming her eyes

Without a second thought she bolted towards the bedroom door opening it and running down the stairs

"SAM WAIT.." she could hear Barbara and Aashna calling out for her to stop but she ignored them and simply kept running, the king being the only thing on her mind at that very moment

Let her go. A voice echoed in Barbara and Aashnas heads. I got her, it was Ruby

Samantha continued to run through the castle halls. Is he okay? Will he be fine? Of course he won't Sam he was stabbed. He won't leave me right?! He can't... Not now..

Tears ran down her cheeks as she made to the castle doors. Not hesitating one minute to push them open and running outside. Her bare feet colliding with the muddied ground, but that was the least of her concern

She made it just in time to see Alek pull the sword out of the kings stomach and watch the king fall on his knees blood coming out of his mouth... Back blood. Then falling sideways to the ground

"NOOOO" Samantha screamed at the top of her lungs before running straight towards him

She ran through the warriors to get to him, an arrow was shot at her but it never hit her. In fact it bounced off an invisible object and ended up hitting one of the enemy warriors

Ruby had her eyes trained on Sam as she fought off some enemy warriors that were attacking her as well. She was focusing her attention on the invisible shield she had on Sam

"go get him" she whispered as the last enemy warrior she was fighting fell to the ground

Samantha fell on her knees once she was close enough and put the kings head on her lap. His eyes were closed, but he was still breathing which was a good sign

"Zayn, baby.." she whispered as tears fell from her eyes

"Sam..." his voice was weak due to his exhaustion "I thought I told you to stay inside" he whispered, but it was still loud enough for Sam to hear

"you're hurt.." she said "I wasn't going to stay inside and watch.."

Zayn chuckled weakly "you never listen do you" there was a ghost of a smile on his lips

Sam let out a weak laugh "I thought you already knew how stubborn I was" she touched his cheek

Zayn chuckled again, only this time he coughed up more blood after

"shhhhh" Sam touched his cheek "save your energy, you're gonna be okay" her vision blurred again

"S-sam.." he lifted his hand up to touch her cheek "I need y-you to k-know that you are the be-est thing that has ever happened to me"

"Zayn don't say that like I'm about to lose you" she was full on sobbing at this point "you can't go. You said we would be together forever"

"Sam.... I L-love y-you"

He whispered as his eyes shut and his hand fell to his side. His breathing was getting slower by the second. Samantha put her hand on his chest to find it colder than it usually is

"Zayn.."

everything slowed down as she sobbed into his chest "you can't go. Open your eyes" it seemed like it was only the two of them on that battle ground with no one around them "don't leave me.." the sounds of yelling and fighting sounding like mere whispers to Sam as she raised her head up to look at him "please..."

I need to tell him. She thought. Whether it's a good time or not, he needs to know... If.. If he's gonna d-die she gulps, hating herself for even thinking that. He needs to know now

And so she moves closer to his ear in order to tell him the news that she was supposed to tell him under better circumstances... Surprise him even "Zayn" she whispers in his ear "you need to get up"

Sam felt the area her hand was placed on his chest warm up a little "you need to fight.." his left hand twitched
"you need to open your eyes" she saw his his eyes move under his eyelids
