Wordlessly walking to her door, Haru got out her key and unlocked it. She opened the door and stepped inside, closing the door behind her. Taking off her shoes, she heads to her couch and lays down until Kai licked her hand. "I guess you're hungry, right?" Haru asked her dog, who barks happily while wagging his tail. Getting up, she wanders into the kitchen and goes over to the closet pantry. Opening the door, Haru digs out a sack of puppy chow and sets it on the counter before she grabs Kai's favorite dog dish.
Haru pours the food into the bowl and sets it down on the floor. It didn't long for Kai to start eating. As he was eating, Haru petted his soft fur. "Geez, you act like you haven't eaten in weeks." She mutters while watching him happily eat his food. For such a small pup, Kai had quite an appetite. "It won't be long till you eat everything within sight." Haru laughed. She returned to the fridge to get a big carrot, went to her room, and fed Mei. The albino bunny eyed the carrot in her hand, causing Haru to laugh.
Opening the cage, she placed the carrot inside and watched Mei slowly nibble. Her cell phone soon rang, and Haru reached into her coat pocket. Looking at the caller ID, she saw that Toshi was calling her. Haru answered her cell phone and smiled when she heard his voice.
"Hey, Haru, there's something I need to tell you," Toshinori said nervously. He hoped that Haru wouldn't be upset with him.
"What is it, Toshinori?" She asked as she tried not to sound worried.
"I will be busy helping a friend for ten months." He felt worried when Haru didn't say for a few minutes.
Relief soon washed over him when he heard her say, "That's so nice of you, Toshi. You're a good friend." As she said those words, Haru felt so sad about not being able to see him as much as she used to in the past two weeks. 'I shouldn't be so selfish.' Haru mentally scolds herself.
"So you're not upset." Toshinori carefully asks her. The last thing he wanted to do was make her sad.
"No, I'm glad you're helping your friend," Haru said as she forced herself to sound happy.
"While I'm helping him, I'll still have time to come and visit you." Toshinori honestly says. His words made her smile; even when busy, he always found time to spend with her.
"Are you still coming over for dinner?" Haru asked Toshinori. She was hoping that he'd say "yes."
"I wouldn't miss it." He spoke softly. She felt so happy.
"Till then, bye, Toshi." Haru hung up and soon got started on making dinner. An hour later, after she finished cooking, Haru took a quick shower and changed her clothes. When she dressed and dried her hair, she heard someone knock on the front door. "Toshinori," Haru said, smiling as she headed to the door to let him in. When she opened the door, Toshinori noticed that Haru's hair was damp. Perverted thoughts start running through his mind, and he begins to cough up blood.
A bright blush appeared on his cheeks when Haru pulled her handkerchief from out of her pocket and gently wiped away the blood from his mouth. 'Haru would never date a guy like me, a walking skeleton.' Toshinori thought sadly, but a small, hopeful voice kept telling him he was wrong, and deep down, he wanted to believe it.
"Toshi, are you okay?" Haru asked with a worried look in her eyes.
Scratching the back of his, Toshinori sheepishly smiled, "I'm alright, Haru."
She steps aside and lets Toshinori walk into her apartment before closing the door behind her. They both head to the kitchen, and Haru makes them both a bowl of beef stew. "I've been meaning to ask you this for some time. Some of the dishes that you make are American, right?" Toshinori said with a knowing look. Haru was surprised by his knowledge of American food dishes.
Haru's POV
I've only known him for two weeks, but Toshi always found a way to surprise me. "Yes, it is. How did you know?" I curiously asked.
Toshinori grinned and said, "I know because I went there a couple of years ago." Toshi's answer shocked me; he rarely shared anything about himself. The only thing I know about him is that his favorite color is red, and he likes fries, rabbits, Kai, and movies.
Other than Toshinori's likes and his favorite color, I barely knew anything about him until now. "Have you ever been to America," Toshi asked. I looked at him, and I noticed a curious look on his face. "Yes, I lived in Missouri for seven years," I told him while looking into his eyes. I picked up my chopsticks and continued to eat. As I was eating, I'd glance over at Toshi occasionally. "What made you decide to come to Japan?" He questioned.
"I was born here, and my mother, father, and older brother all live here," I told Toshinori, who looked surprised.
This was the first time I had ever talked about my family. It was a touchy subject for me that I preferred not to talk about, but whenever I was with Toshi, I felt like I could tell him anything without fear of being judged. "Are you going to visit them?" I heard him ask, and I shook my head.
"I wouldn't be welcomed there. I left home a long time ago without giving my family an explanation, and I doubt that after all this time, they would be happy to see me." I honestly say.
My eyes were filled with fear when I saw Kai drag my helmet into the kitchen. I got out of my seat, darted towards him, and snatched my helmet from him before running out of the kitchen and into my bedroom to hide it. I knew Toshi would be suspicious of my behavior, but I wasn't ready for him to know about me being Archangel.
Toshinori's POV
Since Haru's dog dragged some object into the kitchen, she's been acting strange, almost secretive. Whatever her dog dragged into the room had scared her. I've never seen Haru move so fast before. I barely even saw her get out of her seat.
'She's hiding something, and whatever it is, Haru's afraid.' I noted as she slowly walked back into the room, acting like nothing happened.
We both ate in awkward silence until I finally had enough and said, "Kai has grown quite a bit since the last time I saw him." Haru beamed at me, and I felt my heart skip a beat. Her beautiful grey eyes soften as she says, "You're right, he has grown. The lady that I bought him from claimed that he would never grow. But I'm glad that Kai had proved her wrong." Her eyes twinkled when she spoke about Kai, which made me want to make her happy.
"Thank you for dinner, it was great." I smiled. Her face started heating up, and I noticed the adorable blush on Haru's cheeks. Only one word popped into my mind: "cute." I liked seeing Haru flustered.
"You're welcome, Toshi." Haru sweetly says before Kai gently scratches my pants leg, wanting me to pick him up. So I pick him up, and he climbs up my shoulder and licks the side of my face.
"I swear that Kai likes you more than he likes me." She cutely pouts while trying not to smile.
"Do you want to watch a movie?" Haru asked. I'd never turn down an opportunity to watch a movie with her. I nod and help her wash the dishes. After we finished, Haru and I went to the living room. I sat down on the couch and waited for her to pick out a movie. When she finally found one that she liked, Haru puts it in the DVD player. She grabbed the remote from her coffee table, sat beside me, and pushed play.
Kai jumps into her lap, and we both watch The Hobbit. She gently laid her head on my shoulder while Kai fell asleep in her lap. During the film, thoughts of Haru start running through my mind. Whenever she smiled at me, my heart felt soaring, and her beautiful eyes shined with happiness; it made me feel happy. And then there's Haru's laughter; it was music to my ears. 'I think... I'm falling for her.' I smiled to myself.
