i am from the ads on spotify,
and the birds above that fly
in Vs, their wings spread wide.
i am from those who died.
the ones that fell with a pause,
i am from my cat's sharp claws.
i am from his scratches deep,
his bites, his purrs, his endless leaps.
i am from those nights so bleak.
i am from standing upon those peaks.
i am from staring at the moon,
i am from those whistled tunes.

from the night and from the day,
i am from where i've frayed.
glowing dark and shadowed bright,
i am from a lack of light.
i never tied my lace-up shoes.
i peeled dried-up elmers glue.
i am from play-dough and "i'm so gay",
i am from my saddest days.

i am from these words so twisted,
i am from wishing i never existed.
i am from poetry and stories,
i am from where they placed me, categories.
