"Y/N, did you want another drink?" I heard Zach say over the loud music of the school dance.

I swayed my hips to the music, replying with a simple, "no thank you."

Zach joined me dancing to the music as well.

We were with Justin, Alex, Jessica, and Clay.

Out of everyone I was with, I have known Zach the longest, since we were six.

He lives across the street from me and always has and up until now we've been best friends. I've always had this feeling that I wanted something more with Zach, but I didn't push it because I didn't want to ruin our friendship.

Soon after the song came to an end and another one began to play, Zach wondered off to the drink table that was on the other side of the gym.

I continued to dance with the others along to the smooth sounding song.

Not long after I see Clay and Justin bolting out of the gym.

Jessica and I exchanged a confused and worried glance before quickly following the guys to see what was the matter.

We followed them just down the hall that was across from the gym, coming to a holt when we saw Tyler standing there with a huge gun in his hand.

"Tyler, man," Clay stepped forward with caution. "Put the gun down. We can just talk about this okay? Before you make any rash decisions," he spoke as calmly as he possibly could.

Justin hissed for Clay to step away, worried that Tyler could fire any minute.

Jessica and I just stood there and stared. I whispered over to Justin asking if I should go alert someone.

"No," he said quietly. "We wait until he gives up the gun. If he doesn't, then that's when you two can go warn everyone," he stated. I knew I shouldn't listen and that I should go tell someone now, but I just nodded, too scared to move a muscle.

"This isn't a rash decision Clay. Now move out of my way!" Tyler bellowed.

You could see Clay tense up more when Tyler rose his voice.

Clay stepped back a foot, not taking his eyes off of Tyler, "you don't need to do this, Tyler. There's better ways of handling whatever it is that's going on," he tried to persuade.

Suddenly, Tyler raised his gun at Clay. Without thinking, I rushed forward pushing Clay out of the way.

Suddenly, I felt a burning sensation somewhere slightly below my right shoulder.

I looked down, seeing blood pouring out from the medium sized bullet hole.

I put pressure of the bullet wound, trying to stop the blood as my head started to feel like it was spinning.

I felt myself hit the ground. I heard echoing voices of Justin, Clay, and Jessica, along with the screams of people from the gym who just heard the gun shot and were now fleeing.

I looked up from where I was sitting, seeing a look of utter shock, horror, and guilt all mixed together on Tyler's face.

You could tell he didn't mean it. I should've known he was just pointing his gun at Clay to threaten him. But you never really know, so I jumped into "save" Clay, which seemed to have startled Tyler enough to pull the trigger.

My thought process became slower, and my vision went foggy until it was completely dark and I felt myself go unconscious.

Beep...Beep...Beep..Beep...

I cracked open my eyes, hissing when the bright light coming through the windows hit my eyes.

I looked around, noticing the familiar set up of the hospital.

I looked over at my right shoulder, seeing it all bandaged up, reminding me of what had happened at the school dance.

A groan escaped my lips and I threw my head back onto the pillow.

"Glad to see you're finally awake." I turned my head to the door of the room, seeing a doctor walk in. "How are you feeling he asked?"

   I shrugged, "kinda hungry."

He chuckled, "well that's good, it means the pain meds for your bullet wound are working since you can't feel any pain," he said to me. "There's a guy waiting out in the hallway for you. He's been here all last night until now." I glanced at the clock: 7:36 pm. "His name is Zach Dempsey. You know him?"

I nodded, "yeah. You can let him in."

The doctor nodded, walking out of the room and mumbling something to someone in the hall.

After a couple seconds, Zach rushed in the room. His face was red and so were his eyes. He must've been crying.

"Y/N! God I was so worried about you, you lost so much blood," he blurted out. Zach sat on the chair that was next to my bed. "I'm so glad you're okay."

I smiled lightly, "how could I leave you right now, Zach? We haven't even gone to Coachella yet!" I joked.

Zach cracked a smile, letting out a small chuckle, "right. Sorry what was I thinking?" There was a small silence before Zach reached over and grabbed my hand, "I love you, Y/N," he confessed, his eyes staring right into mine.

   "I love you too, Zach."

"No no not like that," he said. I tilted my head in confusion but let him continue. "I love you more than a friend."

   My eyes widened, "wait, really?"

He nodded, "I was too scared to tell you before cause I didn't wanna ruin our friendship. But after you got shot yesterday and I didn't know what would happen to you, I told myself that I had to—"

I cut off his rambling by leaning in and placing a passionate kiss on his lips. He kissed back and after a couple seconds I pulled away, "I love you too, Zach."
