"You know what's weird?" Felix said out of the blue as he put his pencil down on the library table.
"You," Changbin playfully replied, earning an eye roll from the younger boy.
"No," the Australian answered.
"And I for one think that I'm perfectly normal, thank you very much."
"You're not normal at all," the raven haired boy responded with a small smile.
But Changbin didn't say that to make fun of the taller boy; he said it because it was the truth. Felix most certainly was not normal by any means, because normal people don't speak words of golden honey the way that Felix did. And normal people don't have galaxies implanted in their eyes, or stars dotted across the bridges of their noses, and they most certainly didn't have angelic smiles and a cotton touch like Felix did.
"Let's start this conversation over," the blonde sighed, picking his pencil up again.
He pretended to write a couple of words down on the his notebook paper, then he dropped the pencil once more, like he'd done a minute ago.
"You know what's weird?" He repeated his question, letting his gaze drift to the raven haired boy once more.
And as badly as Changbin wanted to repeat the answer he gave last time, he decided to play along with whatever it was that Felix was doing, and he gave a proper answer that time around.
"What's weird?" He inquired.
"It's weird that I've gotten so close to you," the younger boy stated.
"Why is that weird?" Changbin asked, his brows furrowing ever so slightly as he spoke.
"Because we just met a week ago. Or, well, met again, I think. We met before this, but since I don't remember, it's kind of like I'm meeting you for the first time all over again," Felix explained.
And the older boy had to admit that the younger was right. Even for Changbin, who had full recollection of the time that he and the Australian spent together as children, it did feel a bit like they were starting over and meeting one another for the first time. And at first, that was a bit disappointing to the raven haired boy. Truth be told, when he saw Felix's name and picture on the website, he got excited; and he begged Chan to switch clients with him (which the Australian had absolutely no problem doing). And in a way, the raven haired boy hoped that Felix would instantly recognize him in one way or another. But deep down, he knew that that was just wishful thinking, because they'd gone to high school together for three years, passed each other in the halls on a daily basis, and even had a few classes together...And yet, Felix never recognized him. So, he knew that it was just false hope that he was giving himself.
However, things weren't all bad, because even if Felix couldn't recall their fifty three days together at ages eight and nine; he could recall the feelings. He recognized the calming effect that Changbin's words had, and he recognized the comfortable warmth that the older boy's body gave off, and recognized that feeling of safety that he had whenever Changbin was around. The memories might have been lost, but Felix was sure that those feelings would never fade.
"...yeah, I guess it is," the raven haired boy stated.
"And I honestly don't know what it is about you that makes me feel the way I do," the younger boy rambled on, because he felt like there was words he needed to say, and feelings that he needed to express to Changbin that he hadn't before.
"It's like, I don't know, I just feel...Comfortable with you. Like I can tell you things that I don't normally tell other people. But maybe I'm just talking a bunch or nonsense."
Sheepishly, Felix returned his gaze to his book, fearing that he'd said far too much. However, Changbin didn't feel that way. If anything, the raven haired boy wished that the blonde had said more. Discreetly, Changbin nibbled on his bottom lip in nervousness as he reached out, nearly placing his hand on top of Felix's. But he didn't actually touch the younger boy. His hand just came very, very close, and there was less than an inch of space between their fingers.
The Australian noted the movement, and his eyes flickered to where the older boy's hand was nearly touching his own, and Felix felt his heart skip a beat. So he stopped reading, but kept his eyes on the page of his textbook, in order to think about a few things before he made any sudden moves.
Firstly, he remembered what Seungmin had asked him the day before.
What do you want out of this relationship with Changbin?
But, Felix still wasn't sure. All knew was that he didn't want Changbin to leave him and not be a part of his life. He also thought about what Jeongin said about testing things to see if he was really in love with the raven haired boy. Sinking his teeth into the inside skin of his cheek, the younger boy's fingers twitched slightly as his hand raised up off the table ever so slightly. He felt like a schoolgirl, because now his hands were shaking, and he was quick to plant his palm down on the table again firmly.
Seeing that caused the older boy's heart to drop, because he thought that maybe Felix was going to make the first move and hold his hand...But, it seemed that he was wrong, because the Australian wasn't moving any longer.
What will he think if I hold his hand? Felix asked himself, turning the page of his book with his free hand, because he still wasn't willing to move his other hand away from Changbin's...Just in case the older boy were to take the initiative and make the first move.
What would I think about holding his hand? The blonde questioned further.
And when it came down to it, Felix knew that he really wouldn't mind. He'd let Changbin hold his hand; no questions asked. He'd allow the older boy to place his hand on top of his, and the Australian began to imagine the warmth that would come from such an act. He was sure it would be sweet, and he would have bet his next paycheck from the ice cream parlor that it would make him feel like he was lying in direct sunlight.
I wish I could just hold his hand, Changbin mentally sighed.
But he knew that things weren't as simple as they were when the two of them were just children. He couldn't just hold Felix's hand without a reason. When they were just eight and nine years old, there didn't need to be a specific reason for him to slip his own hand into the younger boy's. There didn't need to be a reason for him to want to do such a thing, because it was innocent back then, and neither of them knew at eight and nine years old, just how lovely the action was in itself.
But they weren't eight and nine years old anymore. No, Felix was eighteen, Changbin was nineteen, and now they needed a reason. The raven haired boy couldn't just hold the blonde's hand because he wanted to. Not when they were now fully aware of what types of feelings and connotations went along with the lacing of fingers between two people such as themselves.
Friends hold hands, don't they? It's not like hand holding is a proposal or anything...Felix noted, pursing his lips into a tight line for a moment or two as he let his eyes flicker up to where Changbin's hand was right next to his.
