Lucky and pals meet the Snow Dogs

Chapter 8

The next morning soon came and it was time for Ted to head back to his home in Miami. 

The kids said their goodbyes and so did their dogs. They were going to miss Ted, even though he still wasn't much of a dog person. 

They watched as he got on the back of George's snowmobile and took off, out of sight. 

"I can't believe he's gone" said Rolly. 

"Yeah" Lucky and the twins sighed quietly. 

"I'm sure gonna miss him" Storm said.  

"We all our" Cadpig mentioned. 

The gang kept watching in the distance for a few moments. 

"Come on, let's go" Kali told her siblings and dogs they had to get down to watch the Arctic Challenge race. 

It was like a big party down town as people were in line to get hot dogs, kids were running around wearing sled dog hats, and crowds where cheering for their favorite musher, sledding champion Olivier Trajean. 

"For the mushers and their dogs nothing can match this moment. We're here at the starting line awaiting the signal to begin the 112th Arctic Challenge sled dog races" a female news reporter made the announcement. 

The kids had learned that Thunder Jack put Demon in as his lead dog for the race. 

The mushers were soon all lined up, preparing for the race. The bell suddenly rang and the kids and their dalmatians watched and cheered as the sled teams took off. The race had begun. 

Lucky glowered at Demon all the way as his team took off, still upset how the grouchy husky wouldn't allow him or his siblings to be on the team in a sled race. 

The kids and their dogs watched the race go on for hours until word got out that a massive snowstorm was coming in that evening, forcing all the racers to bunk in for the night at Rusky knife checkpoint. 

The kids were home that night with the dogs watching the news update on the race. That's when it was announced that Thunder Jack and his team took off right into that storm and hadn't been seen since. 

The Harpercop siblings looked to each other in worry, knowing they had to call Ted. But they got word from Barb and George that Ted was already on his way and gave the kids a lift to the airport with them. 

The gang waited at the airport, when they soon spotted Ted. He came over and hugged Barb. 

"Glad to see back, Ted" Brock said to the dentist from Miami. 

The dalmatians then came up, panting happily while wagging their tails, glad to see Ted. Ted smiled and petted the dalmatians, glad to see them too. 

"Alright, let's go" Ted told the gang. "I got to find Jack"

"Ted, there's something you need to know" Barb had something important to tell him. 

"Later" Ted said. "He lied to me. Come on"

"Ted? Wait" Barb looked serious.  

"What?" Ted turned back around to face Barb.

Barb looked hesitant for what she was about to say but looked to Ted, knowing he had to hear this. "...Jack's missing"

"What?" Ted looked shocked. 

"He made the check-in at Rusty Knife" George explained. "Then the old fool headed straight into a storm. That's the last anybody saw of him"

"And the weather's gotten so bad the rescue crews had to turn back" Ann added. 

Ted was silent, thinking for a moment before saying. "I know where he is"
