2103: Martial Law (Love in Dark Times)

She has Morals

  She has morals and the intellect to take you up on any argument. 

Have I mentioned that she had the morals and intellect to take up anyone in an argument? She was that feisty woman who gets provoked at the slightest word. I recall the times she engaged any one in a heated debate. It was lunch time at school, we were busy preparing for the upcoming mobilization. I already talked with a couple of bands to perform for the upcoming mobilization.

She sat with me at University Food Service, she was editing her speech as I was confirming the attendance of the guests, we were having our breakfast here. Mamaya pa kasi ang mga klase ni Denise at Eileen. Her cousin Eileen went to the counter to get herself a Mango Shake. Pabalik na ito sa table namin, nang biglang madinig ni Denise ang isang grupo ng kalalakihan sa kabilang table, adjacent ng sa amin. 

"Excuse me, Miss. Pwede bang makuha ang number mo?" said one guy from the other table.

Eileen didn't respond to them, she sat beside Denise. Habang patuloy pa din ang mga lalake from making their comments.

"Sungit, pero pag natikman niya tong titi ko, sigurado ako hahanap-hanapin niya to."

Denise's eyes grew big. She stopped typing on her phone and spoke to the boys.

"Excuse me boys, may problema ba kayo sa pinsan ko?" Denise said.

"Wala naman, pero yung mga ganyang klaseng babae, yung mga pakipot, dapat sa kanila nirerape. Tulad nga ng sabi ng presidente natin diba? Pararangalan daw nya ang mga sundalong makakapatay ng nagdadrugs o nagtitinda ng drugs. Tingin ko nakadrugs yang pinsan mo eh, sa gwapo kong ito? Di niya ako papansinin?" One of the guys said.

"You mister, has some serious issues about women ano? Did your mother raise you like that? Para sabihin ko sayo, hindi nagdadrugs ang pinsan ko, may standard din siya, hindi yan papatol sa mga baboy na katulad mo." Denise said.

"Wala ka pala pare eh, baboy ka daw." Sabi naman ng isa sa mga kasamahan nung lalake.

"Also, I could sue you for catcalling and for threatening to rape her." Denise said.

The guy was silent and admonished his peers habang nagwalk out na ito.

"Denise, maraming salamat. I just didn't want to engage them. They're a bunch of maniacs. Taga department namin ang mga yun." Eileen said to her cousin.

"Eils, wag mong hinahayaan ang mga mokong na yun. Kasi mas naeencourage sila na magsalita ng masama laban sa mga babae." Denise said as she picks her phone up from the table.

"Okay, Denise. So, kamusta naman ang sinusulat mong speech para sa mobilization niyo?" Eils asked her.

"Okay naman, eto medyo malapit ko nang matapos." She smiled at Eileen.

"Ikaw, Maling? Kamusta na ang paghahanda mo ng musical performances?" Eileen asked me.

"Eto, malapit nang makumpleto ang line up. Yung mga kaibigan ko na nakilala ko sa mobilization nung nakaraang taon, Kaleidoscope Eyes are coming to play." I answered her.

"Wow! Talaga? Fan ako ng band na yan." Eileen said.

"Talaga? I'll introduce you to them." I smiled at her.
