Chapter 17 - Noah

I do not really know what is happening.

I turn to Pennamore and say, "Pennamore, what are you doing?"

"I'm not Pennamore. We switched places. We want to get the Annex Guide, but it is dusk now."

I reply, "Wait, you are Persephone?"

"Yes I am. You are the only one who knows this, though, besides my sister. Now, do you want to help me?"

I look around and see that Olivia has disappeared. That is strange. Now, I just need to decide whether to help Persephone or not. I decide I will. Really, how hard can it be to get back the Annex Guide?

"Sure. What do I need to do?"

Persephone smiles as she says, "We need to morph. One of us should go to Pennamore, so we know when to make a run for it and the other needs to actually get the Guide itself. The problem is we need to be inconspicuous."

"I think they are stupid enough that they would not notice any unusual animal."

"True, but it needs to be safe." Persephone says.

"Well, what about a firefly?" I ask.

"That is perfect. Have you ever seen the Annex Guide?"

   I reply truthfully, "Not really."

Persephone tells me, "You go to my sister. I hope she does not panic."

I nod and then I watch as Persephone quickly morphs into a firefly. It is weird to me seeing her morph right now. Not because she is a morphling of the night, I know that, but because I have been with Pennamore. Those two look alike. I really do not know the difference between them when they are side by side, unmorphed of course. I fly into the room, after Persephone and go to Pennamore. She notices me and then looks over to her sister who is just arriving at the front of the room.

Pennamore says aloud suddenly, "Can I go now? I have said all I know."

"No." Someone replies. "You know more than you are letting on."

I see Persephone go down and land on the paper. It is a little strange to watch her secretly fold the Annex Guide and put it in her pocket. While we are morphed, it is as though we are still human. I mean we can talk and do everything that is otherwise normal. Persephone flies quickly out of the room.

Before I leave I whisper to Pennamore, "Be ready to run."

Then I leave. Behind me I hear that the disappearance of the Annex Guide has been noticed. Persephone and I unmorph for the time being. It will most likely be safer until we get out of the castle.

  "Pennamore run!" Persephone yells.

Pennamore looks our way and breaks into a sprint.

As she runs by she says, "We have to leave now and we must not turn back."

Persephone and I are quick to follow her. We manage our way outside where the sun has already set. It feels nice out here. We run out the castle gates when I start to hear people coming behind us.

"You two should morph and fly away. I can catch up later." Pennamore says.

Persephone is next to her sister now and says, "No. I'm not leaving you, not when we are together again."

"I can not let you do that. I'm serious. You and Noah need to go."

I can hear that whoever is behind us is advancing. They will catch up to us if we do not go soon.

As much as I hate to say it, I say, "Maybe Pennamore is right."

  Persephone stops for a moment.

She grabs Pennamore and looks at her. "Penny, can we morph when we're fused?"

"I'm not sure, but we need to keep moving."

"We have to try." Persephone says.

I see Pennamore nod. I watch as they fuse together. It looks strange. I mean they are together as one person at the moment. I morph into a bat and fly up into the air, but I do not move. I see them as they morph into an owl. They fly up into the air.

  I state, "That actually worked?"

"Apparently and it is great. Now fly quickly." I hear Pennamore's voice.

I thought that fusions were normal to me. I mean I know fusions and have friends who are fusions. Now, I'm not so sure. I guess I have never actually seen fusions together for a long period of time.

We fly until we are far enough away from the kingdom of Welsh. We go down and land. I look at the moon and see morning is just a few hours away. I unmorph and turn over to the princesses. They have unfused already and embrace each other in a big hug.

Pennamore says, "I'm so glad you are safe."

Persephone replies, "It is only because of you. Those foreigners were so annoying and I really wanted to do something to get away, but I knew I had to play it safe."

"Playing it safe is best for everyone. Not just because it makes you seem innocent in everything, but because it allowed you to not be seen as a threat."

Persephone smiles. "Penny, I had to think as you do in order for me to play it safe. That just comes naturally to you."

Pennamore laughs and looks at me. "Well, I'm not the one who helped you, not fully anyways. Noah is actually the one who helped me come up with a fast plan to save you."

I ask, "How do you think I did that, Pennamore?"

"Well, I mean I was talking to you about codes when I realized my sister does that sort of thing all of the time." Pennamore states.

Persephone turns to her, "Wait, you didn't know I had hidden a message until you were talking about codes. So, if you had not had to explain to Noah, you never would have even known what I did."

Pennamore states, "No, but that is not what happened."

"It could have." Persephone whispers as she morphs.

Then she flies away into the distance. She does not go far as she is still in our sight, but far enough to where she is alone.

Pennamore says, "I broke my sister."

    I reply, "No you didn't."

Pennamore looks up and into my eyes. "I did. You don't know Persephone like I do. Persephone is totally different than what she lets on."

"She can not be upset with you. I mean you did save her."

"My sister is right though. I could have never even seen her message."

"Pennamore, her letter was reason enough for you to be quick to rescue her. It would not have mattered."

She smiles. "I guess, but her message, our message, is what really made me see the danger."

Then before I can say anything, Pennamore runs up to where her sister is. They talk and are soon laughing. I walk over to them. When they notice me, both Persephone and Pennamore look at me.

They say, "Come on. We have to get back home to our real kingdom."

"We need to get back to Change." I agree.

With that, we all get up. I morph as Pennamore and Persephone fuse. Once they morph, we fly up into the air and towards Change, the kingdom we all belong in.

Change is the kingdom where we fit in, being morphlings, fusions, or in the princesses' case, fuslings. This journey has been interesting for us all for many reasons. However, it is time for things to be normal again. That is fine by me except for one problem. Something that I have known, but just dawns upon me now. I am in love with Pennamore, the fusling of the day.
