chapter thirty-five; real life

"Reece!"

I try not to laugh, but it seemed impossible.

Reece, who was currently on the ground, had slid on a blanket that was in the middle of the aisle.

His foot came out from under him as it landed on the blanket, and he went down.

I'm just glad he didn't break anything.

On him or in the store.

But he did lose everything in the basket.

"Is everything- What happened?" A clerk walks over to us, concern on her face when she sees Reece on the ground.

"I slipped and fell."

"Are you alright?" She reaches down, picking up some of the things that had fallen out of the basket and putting them back in.

"Yea, I'm fine. Thank you."

She nods. "Are you ready to checkout?"

I nod, helping Reece up and following her to the counter.

We quickly pay and walk out, Reece rubbing his shoulder as we get into the car.

It only takes a few minutes to get home, and when we do Reece grabs everything and we walk in.

"You should ice it now that we're home." I say as walk into the living room.

"I don't need to."

"You fell pretty hard Reece, you're going to be sore for a- ah!"

I stop and grip his shoulder tightly, my stomach tightening and causing pain to erupt throughout my stomach and lower back.

"Are you okay?"

I nod, sitting on the couch. "It's nothing, I just think I've been walking around too much."

"Are you sure you're not going into labor?"

"No."

"No? Oh my god, this is it, isn't it?"

"How am I supposed to know? All I know is that being in labor is one of the most painful things to go through, and this really fucking hurts!"

"Wait, he's not supposed to be here for another week and a half."

"You think I don't know that?"

"Sorry, I just don't- you're hurting my shoulder!"

"Would you rather me kick your-"

"No!"

"That's what I thought."

The doorbell rings, and both Reece and I look over at the door.

"Who is that?" I ask quietly.

"I don't know. You didn't invite anyone over, did you?"

"No. Did you?"

"No."

"Reece? Your car is here, so I know you're in there. Is everything alright? I thought I heard yelling."

"Oh thank god. It's my parents."

He rushes over to the door, opening it up immediately.

"What's going on?"

"I'm kind of freaking out."

"What? Why?"

"I think Leanna's gone into labor."

Lyndsey and Lexi walk in, their eyes widening when they see me.

"How far apart are they?" Lyndsey asks, walking over to me.

"What? I don't know!"

"Do we need to go to the hospital?" Reece asks, and Lyndsey nods.

"This-" I stop, another contraction coming.

"Holy crap. Okay, I'll grab the hospital bag."

"Hurry."

"You think I won't?"

"Well you're not right now!"

"Right, Yea. I'm going!"

He runs upstairs, coming back down thirty seconds later with the bag around his shoulders.

"Come on, let's go."

"Wait."

"You're having this baby and you're telling me to wait? Why?"

"We need to get his outfit out of the bag."

"That's what you're thinking about?"

"Yes! We can't bring him home in just a diaper! He'll freeze to death!"

"Right."

"And grab that blue blanket that we bought."

"On it."

He runs to the dining room, bring back the two things I asked him as well as a pacifier and the box of diapers.

"Extra prepared."

"Yea well let's go because this is really starting to hurt."

"I wonder why. Oh wait, you're in labor!"

"Now is not the time to be sarcastic Reece!" Lexi and I yell at the same time.

"I'm trying not to!"

"Well try harder!"

"Jeez. You don't have to yell at me."

"Reece, just ride in the car with me." Jamie says. "The worst thing you can do is upset a woman in labor."

"Okay?"

Reece walks over to me. "I'll meet you at the hospital, okay? We're right behind you."

I nod, pressing my lips against his quickly before getting in the passenger seat.

We arrived at the hospital ten minutes later, and Reece was already inside with a nurse waiting for me.

"Ready?"

"Because I haven't heard enough of that lately."
