I looked around in my office. I had many awards hanged up on my wall. All the hard work I put into my education to take them to a better place.
"Mom and Dad would be proud of you Jess."
I looked to find my brother standing at the doorway. He walked towards me and gave me a hug.
"Yeah, but give yourself some credit."
I said playfully and pulling away.
"So what you come here for Kyle?" I asked.
"Don't play dumb with me Jess." He said crossing his arms against his chest. "Do you even know what day it is?"
"Uhm May 21st?" I said
"Yeah, your birthday!" Throwing his hands up in the air.
"Oh, that's today?" I asked while picking up a stack of paper.
"Yes and we're going to celebrate" he said while taking the stack of paper away from me.
"Fine" I groaned. Kyle took me to one of his famous night clubs he owned. He brags about how much celebrities come to all his clubs. He knew I didn't drink because of my profession. I was the worlds best neurologist there was right now and at young age of 26. Well 27 now.
Kyle came by and handed me apple cider and left me alone with Jeff. Which was the bartender. He was a really nice guy. We talked most of the night about mechanics since he was a major geek about it and I as well. Thanks to my dad.
"Yo. Bartender. Give me a shot of tequila fast." He said his words kind of in a slur.
"Drunk head." I thought to myself. I took a sip of my apple cider.
He turned around.
"Make that two." He said.
Jeff rolled his eyes and turned to me.
"I be back hun." He said and left.
I nodded.
The guy was still staring at me. I felt really uncomfortable. The man was about to say something when Jeff came with his drinks.
I told Jeff I was going to leave. He understood and we exchanged numbers. I left the bar fast without saying goodbye to Kyle.
I got inside my car and drove home.
What a birthday.
