"-o, to, ruto, aruto, Naruto!" was what the boy heard as he awoke from his slumber. "What is it, Gramps? I'm tired!" Naruto complained as his grandfather figured attempted to wake him up. "Today is a school day. No time for slacking. For the time that Gaara is here, you need to take him everywhere. Take him with you to school today. It will be a great learning experience." Naruto sighted and got up. He walked over to his closet and picked out an outfit. He chose a blue short sleeved shirt with a sleeveless orange jacket to go over it and white shorts. He grabbed his lunch money from the table and shoved it in his pocket as he darted out of the door and over to the place where the sand siblings were staying.

But, unfortunately, it was the day before the Kyuubi festival. The day before his birthday. The day before his parents' and many other shinobi's deaths. The streets of Konoha weren't the safest place for him near this time, so he took the long way around the outskirts of town by the lake where Sasuke practiced Katon: goukakyuu no jutsu. It took him about 15 minutes longer to get there, but he made it and knocked on the door.

Temari answered. "Oh, hey Naruto. What brings you here?" she asked. "I'm here for Gaara. Gra- I mean Lord Third wanted me to bring him with me to the Academy today." In the middle of his sentence, Naruto had recalled the conversation that he and Sarutobi had the previous night. Temari caught the self-correction but looked the other way. "Okay, I'll call him down." she said, wanting to get back to her relaxing. Little did she know, she'd be busy today also. Gaara came down the stairs and saw Naruto at the door. He walked over to the entryway and smiled as he waved at his new friend.

"Hey, Gaara-kun, Lord Third suggested that you come to the Academy with me today!" Naruto explained, excited for what was to come. "Hai!" Gaara responded excitedly much to the surprise of Temari, but she smiled happy for her brother that had found a friend. Gaara grabbed some money and stuck it deep into his pocket before he ran off through the outskirts of the town with Naruto to get to the Academy.

They only made it by a minute. Everyone else- beside Kakashi- were already there. Gaara recognized Neji and Lee, but everyone else was an unfamiliar. A stranger. All of the strangers in Suna always avoided him and gave him harsh looks and the thought of it happening here saddened the young red headed boy. Naruto noticed because he spoke up. "We only have a minute, but Kakashi Sensei will be late. Let's go introduce you to the others!" Naruto said excitedly as he dragged his friend to meet his others. "Gaara, meet Shikamaru Nara. Shikamaru, Gaara, Gaara, Shikamaru." Gaara quietly and shyly whispered, "H-hi. I'm Gaara of the Sand. I-it's nice to meet you." Shikamaru just smiled and said "No need for introductions. They're troublesome. But anyways, nice to meet you Gaara." He said that it was...nice...to meet me? The sound of that phrase overjoyed Gaara and he wanted to meet everyone he possibly could.

Sooner or later, they made it to Sasuke. "Sasuke-teme! Meet Gaara! I'm showing him around the village for...I have no idea how long! But I wanted him to meet you." Naruto said. He was excited to introduce his new friend to his best friend. "Hello Gaara. I am Sasuke Uchiha. It's nice to meet you." Sasuke said in his monotone voice. Gaara could sense a darkness in the boy and was hesitant but not too slow to greet Sasuke back before Kakashi arrived. Naruto and Sakura immediately yelled, "YOU'RE LATE!" and the jonin just smiled. "Sorry, I got lost on the path of life." the grey headed shinobi excused before noting Gaara's presence. "Ah, Gaara, it's great to have you here. You can sit at the bench with Naruto and Sasuke." He said with a smile, but you could only see his eyes. "H-hai!" Gaara said before Naruto sat next to Sasuke and Gaara sat next to Naruto.

The day went by relatively quickly. They did their studies and Gaara was just loving that fact that people weren't scared when he raised his hand and he was overjoyed when he got chosen. Then they went outside and did taijutsu training, he was matched strictly by Rock Lee, Neji, Shikamaru, Sasuke, and Naruto; who had overpowered him a little although holding back. It was great to feel loved and acknowledged. He had made friends with Shikamaru, Choji, and Sasuke and a few girls had even developed crushes on him which made him blush. He just loved the Leaf Village.

By the end of the day, he waved goodbye to Shikamaru and Choji and walked home with Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi. Masaki couldn't pick up Sasuke because of official business that he had to take care of with Temari and Kankuro, so he asked Kakashi to watch over the child. "Hey, Sasuke-teme. You need a nickname." Naruto said, clearly thinking his name is too long. "Well, I'll come up with something if you stop calling me teme." Naruto nodded excitedly. "Fine then, call me Legendary Avenger." "No. How about duck-ass." "NO DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME~" "Yep, duck-ass suits you perfectly, but in public I'll strictly call you teme." Sasuke looked angered. "FIGHT ME, BAKA!" he yelled and Naruto smiled and within the next second, Sasuke was pinned to the ground with a kunai to his neck, too close for comfort. Naruto got off of him and spinned the kunai on his finger before skillfully slipping it back in his pouch.

They continued until they got to the woods. "Hey Gaara, do you want to train with us?" Kakashi invited. He knew about how busy his siblings would be and knew that they wouldn't be home. "Really?!" the redhead asked, hopefully. Kakashi nodded and Gaara's face lit up like a candle. "Yes please!" He responded making Naruto happy and Sasuke too, but Sasuke but he merely let out a light smile with his eyes closed. "Okay, time for some private training in the Forest of Death. It shouldn't be too far away and I'm sure Anko-chan wouldn't mind two other runts on her land." Kakashi said with the famous closed-eye smile.

The made it to the Forest of Death, and, after Sasuke's long speech about how he would never approach this place without a chaperone because it's literally called 'death', the group continued until the reached Anko's place. Naruto knocked and she opened it. "Hello, Anko baa-chan!" he said as he smiled at her. "How many times must I tell you, runt, DON'T CALL ME BAA-CHAN!" she said before chopping the boy on the head, but it didn't hurt so he just smiled at her. "Anyways, kid, who're they?" "This is Sasuke Uchiha and Gaara of the Sand. I'm watching them for the night." Kakashi explained, much to the amusement of Anko as she burst out laughing. "Hey! What's so funny!" the Hatake yelled. "I...'m so...rry I...I just" she began before stopping her laughter. "Sorry, I just never thought I'd see the day where Kakashi Hatake, the loner, the brooder, the S Rank shinobi, would babysit three runts!" Kakashi wanted to say something, but then again, they were using her forest.

After she calmed down for the second time, she invited them all in and the kids had some juice, obviously against Kakashi's will. He didn't want to have to deal with three kids on the sugar high, but he had no choice now. They boys had downed the juice in one gulp.

"BYE, BAA~ I mean ANKO-SAN!" Naruto yelled as they left her presence and headed toward their designated training area.

This should be fun. Kakashi thought, sarcastically.
