Sorry guys for not clearing this up earlier! I know many of you are going to be confused about some things, so this chapter will be dedicated to clearing some of those things up and also feel free to ask questions here too!

So those of you who don't study Irish may find a few things a little bit strange.

First, what are these lines over the vowels and what do they do?

Á É Í Ó Ú

These lines are called Fada's
(fadda, like a very posh 'father')

If you see one of these above any letter, it changes the words pronunciation.

For example:

Arán - bread
This á lengthens out the 'a' sound.
'Ah- raawn'

Bán - white.
'Baawn'

É
Sé - he
'É' Lengthens out the 'e' to make it sound like an 'Ay'.
'Shay'

Í
Sí - she
'Í' lengthens out the 'I' to make it sound like an 'ee'
'She'

Ó
Nó- or
'Ó' lengthens out the 'O' to make it sound like an 'oh'
'No'

Ú
Tú - you
'Ú' lengthens out the 'u' to make it sound like an 'ooh'
'Too'
