Butterfly Kisses

I'm drawn to it

Like a moth to the flame

Now that I say it, it's very relevant

The sun warms me to the core

But never near as much as your butterfly kisses do

The soft yet firm caress of your lips against mine

The way they collaborate

Never parting away, we breathe the same air

I treasure every flutter of your kisses

I cherish your taste, the peppermint

I capture how you kiss me like you're afraid I will run, afraid to let go

But there are words left unspoken

The endearments never graced with speech

Whispers of love and affection are absent

You're too afraid and that might be the reason I run

I think, as you lay your sweet butterfly kisses across my lips

I think that maybe you don't love me, maybe I'm just a fling

A passing fancy, an attraction

I think that this will be the last time

This will be my goodbye

Then just as I'm about to part and turn to walk away

Just as I linger for a second

You whisper uncertainly "I love you and I will try to forever"

The truest confession to my heart
