Present Day

Alavander walked through the cold, dark halls of his large mansion. He passed shelves filled with dusty, ancient spell books, filthy jars holding the remains of once living beings, and arrays of peculiar objects. As he continued to walk through the halls, there were vintage portraits, which were enchanted with the many evil souls trapped inside them, hanging on the walls.

He finally made his way into his sorcery chamber and swiftly walked towards the large, wooden chest at the back of the room. He waved his hand and the chains that kept the chest locked, fell off and the lid flew open.  Searching through the many odd things inside the chest, he pulled out another small, wooden box.  With another wave of his hand, the box opened to reveal a strange, red nesting doll.  Painted on the front of the doll, was a man in a gray fedora, his dark eyebrows furrowed under the brim of his hat.  His face menacing with a dark brown goatee and eyes that pierced the soul.  He wore a gray, fur-trimmed coat and a navy blue tie with a golden spider brooch upon it.  He had a light blue ring on each hand, which both rested on a round cut, blue sapphire-topped, silver-handled black cane.

Stroking the nesting doll, Alavander whispered in his deep, throaty voice, "Don't worry my friends...continue to be patient. The time for you all to be unleashed and our dark empress to rise is coming soon."

He closed the box and gently placed it back in the chest.  He reached back into the large, wooden abyss and pulled out a weathered, paper scroll. He unrolled it to reveal a golden urn painted on it. He rolled up the fragile scroll and carefully placed it back in the chest. With a wave of his hand, the lid of the chest closed and the chains repositioned themselves around it.

He twirled his hand and in a cloud of gray smoke, he appeared in a dark cave. He reached inside of a hollowed ledge of a large boulder in the center of the cave and pulled out a golden urn.  As soon as his crooked, wrinkled fingers made contact with the golden body of the relic, Futhark Runes appeared on it.

"And for you, my dear..." Alavander said stroking the urn delicately — his repulsive, long fingernails scraping the metal as he did so, "I can assure you...your time shan't be long after — for it has begun."
