Behind her Mask

17 2 3

With each passing hour and every passing day
The smile she wears is a character to portray.
Inside she feels broken, crying for help Outside she's happy,
what escapes her isn't even a yelp
Day by day, her heart bleeds more
Only pain is what lays in store

"Please someone," she cries, "see through my mask!"
It is all she wants, it is all her heart will ask.

I am her, for she is me.
We all ignore just what we can't see.
I am her, for she is you.

Can we take off the mask, and see something new?
With each passing hour and every passing day

The smile I wear is a character I portray
Not even those closest to me see through my mask

Can someone see me? That is all I ask.
