The sun was bright and warm, and the wind blew pleasantly. Two children stood face to face at the top of the hill, and both of them were crying. They were playmates, best friends who had met at the beginning of the summer, but summer was now ending and they had to part ways.
"I have to go." The girl said.
"Uh-huh." The boy nodded sadly, sniffling and wiping tears from his eyes.
"I can't come back." She continued.
"Uh-huh."
"I'll love you forever, and you'll love me too, right?" She tucked a piece of her long hair behind her ear.
"Uh-huh."
The girl giggled. "Idiot. Don't you know how to say anything else?"
"Uh-huh. I mean, of course. I'll show you just how smart I am when I'm older!"
"You'll never be as smart as me." She boasted.
"That's okay, as long as it's you. I'll never love anyone else but you, forever and ever!" The boy exclaimed fervently.
"Really?" The girl looked doubtful.
"Yes!"
"Then," She hooked his pinky finger with hers. "Promise me please!"
