CLARY POV
Studying in Mexico City is a dream. The culture is amazing, the food is amazing, and my boyfriend is amazing. His name is Jace, he moved from New York when he was two to Mexico, he knows perfect Spanish and he knows English, sometimes he struggles in pronunciation, but you can still understand him. "TAMALES, FRIJOLES,BURRITOS, ENTOMATADAS! ENFRIJOLADAS!" (Tamales, beans, enchiladas (tomato), Enfrijoladas(beans))
"JUGETES PA LOS NIÑOS! MUÑECOS! MUÑECAS! BALERO'S, TAMBORINEs!"(Toys for the children! Dolls!(masculine) Dolls! (Feminine) Balero's (Mexican Toy) Tamborines (Mexican Toy))
"DULCES! DULCES DE TAMARINDO! DE MANGO! DE FRESA! DE PIÑA!" (Candy! Of tamarindo, Of Mango, Of strawberry, of pineapple) I smile as I look outside to see the vendors, selling. And the costumers buying. There was a march going on outside. Mexico was getting really dangerous, students were getting killed by the government. I'm not exactly sure why they were killing college students. But they were, and I'm a little scared...Jace and i are both in college...but we don't join the march. I just couldn't bare to see Jace get hurt. Jace walks into our apartment. It's small, but it's beautiful.
"Hola," Jace says as he puts the grocery bag down. I go and kiss him.
"Hey, did you see the march?" I ask. Jace doesn't like speaking in English, so he asked if I could learn Spanish for him, and I did. I'm not a great speaker, but I can understand what he says.
"Si, un amigo mío está marchando...es una locura lo que están haciendo! Los policías los van a encarcelar si siguen con eso," (Yes, A friend of mine is joining the march...What They're doing is crazy! The police are going to start arresting them if they keep this up.)
"Well, it does look like it's getting ugly." I respond.
"Feo? Se está poniendo pero de color de hormiga! Es que la política ya se fue ala mierda! Quien sabe que van a hacer ahora!" Jace says angrily. (ugly? It's getting like the color of ants (figurative expression meaning things are going bad) politics has gone to shit! Who knows what they'll do next) Before i say anything else. I hear gunshots. I look outside and see the protestors getting shot at. All of a sudden, the door breaks. A random person comes in and shoots, then he leaves. I was left in shock. I couldn't move. Until I hear a short painful gasp. I look to my left and see Jace on the floor. I fall to the floor. I crawl towards hin and hold him. I let out a painful gasp.
"J-Jace..." His golden eyes were wide in pain. I notice tears running down my cheeks, but I don't care at this point.
      "I-I..." I shake my head.
"N-no...no don't talk, save your breath, ok? I just, hold on..." I get up and start walking around the house, lost. Sowing kit! Where is the sowing kit?! I need that, and alcohol, and I also need tweezers Incase the bullet didn't go all the way through. I had everything but the sowing kit. Where the hell is the damm sowing kit?!
      "CLARY!" I hear Jace yell.
"No! Just, let me find the sowing kit!" I say as I open drawers violently. Everyone is getting shot and killed, they're all going to the hospital, meaning Jace is going to die before we even get there!
"Clary..." I look down as I stop opening drawers. Tears streaming down my cheek. I go up to Jace slowly. Looks up at me with his dying eyes. I drop the tweezers and alcohol. I gently get on my knees and grab his hand.
"Que?" (What?) I ask gently. Jace smiles.
"I love you..." Jace mumbles. "My love," I sniff and smile at him.
"Yo también the amo, mi amor," (I love you too, my love)
"Your Spanish is amazing," Jace says with a painful smile.
"Tu Inglés es perfecto," (Your English is perfect)
          "I love you, Clary,"
"Te amo....Jace," (I love you, Jace). Then, he closes his eyes. His last word was my name...and I made sure, that before I died, I would recite the same words I told Jace before he did.

Te amo....Jace

Background info: The Tlatelolco massacre was the killing of students and civilians by military and police on October 2, 1968, in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in the Tlatelolco section of Mexico City. The events are considered part of the Mexican Dirty War, when the government used its forces to suppress political opposition. The massacre occurred roughly 10 days before the opening of the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. The head of the Federal Directorate of Security reported that 1,345 people were arrested. At the time, the government and the media in Mexico claimed that government forces had been provoked by protesters shooting at them, but government documents made public since 2000 suggest that snipers had been employed by the government. According to US national security archives, Kate Doyle, a Senior Analyst of US policy in Latin America, documented the deaths of 44 people; however, estimates of the death toll range the actual number from 300 to 400, with eyewitnesses reporting hundreds dead.
