“I hope this is dream”

Layla looked around silently.

All around her was a massive storm. The worse storm in the history of the world.

There was a raging tornado in the bay. Lightning and rain surronded it.

Her small town was about to be destroyed.

She ran to the light house which sat on a hill overlooking the bay.

Standing there on the cliff was a boy.

Nathan.

Layla ran to him.

“Holy crap! Layla! Do you see this?” he asked hurriedly

“I see it. I just don’t believe it” She responded

“Oh my gosh… We’re gonna die aren’t we?” he asked, looking at her.

“No… We aren’t. We can’t. We’ll be okay” she said, mostly trying to convince herself.

He nodded “So what do we do?”

“The storm is heading for town… We should be safe here” Layla said

“What about the town?” Nathan asked

“We can’t save them all…” Layla said softly, her eyes looking over their small town sadly.

Nathan pulled her into a hug.

“We should leave now” he said

“What?” she asked.

“We need to leave. Leave Sherfield. Forever.” he said

“But Nate-”

“There’s nothing left for us Layla! We have to go!” he said, “The storm is only going to get stronger.”

As if on cue, a piece of a roof flew at them, being flung by the storm.

It hit the lighthouse and fell to the ground

“Don’t you see? We aren’t safe anywhere in Sherfield. We need to go. Now Layla” Nathan said

“But Nathan… What about your family?” she asked

“What about them? My father never cared for me. Only his name. And my mother never helped me against him.” he said coldly.

Layla looked at the ground, considering her answer

“Layla… Please… I-” he started
But just then, debris flew toward the two.

It slammed against Nathan at full force, taking him with it as it hit the side of the light house

“Nathan!” Layla cried

She ran to him.

He laid, unconscious, under the shattered remains of another roof.

“Nate.. Nathan wake up” Layla pleaded

When he didn’t, she sobbed

The storm tore through Sherfield Bay like a frieght train.

Nothing was left.

When Layla woke up, in her room in Sherfield, she looked around frantically, tears lingered on
her face.

Unconvinced that it was just a dream, she picked up the phone and called Nathan

“Layla…?” a tired Nate answered

“Oh! You’re alright…” she said softly

“Layla… It’s four in the morning… Why are you calling me…?” Nathan asked

“I… I just wanted to say… to make sure you were alright..” she said softly

“I’m fine, Layla, can i go back to sleep now?” he said

“Yes.. and… Nate?” she said

“Hm..?”

“I love you” she said softly

She could hear his smile through the phone “I love you too”

She hung up and stood.

She crossed to her window.

Looking out, she smiled.

Sherfield Bay was safe.

No storm,

no destruction.

It had all been an all too real dream

Sherfield would stand forever.
