Simba and Amara trotted into the entrance to the gorge behind their uncle.
"Now you two wait here," Scar chided once they had reached the lone tree, "your father has a big surprise for you."
"Can you tell us?" Simba asked enthusiastically.
"Well if I told you it wouldn't be a surprise, now would it?"
"If you tell us we'll still act surprised," Amara bribed. Simba energetically nodded his agreement.
"You two are naughty kids," Scar said, rubbing the top of their heads with his paws, "but this is just for you two and your daddy. Now wait here while I go get him."
"Then we'll come with you!" Simba said, bouncing up. Amara followed his example.
"No!" Scar said, jumping forward and forcing them back on the stone, "no, just stay on this rock. You and your sister wouldn't want to get into another situation like the one with you and the hyenas, would you?" Simba's jaw dropped.
"You know about that!?"
"Simba, the whole pride knows." Simba looked away guiltily. Amara looked at her brother with an expression of pity.
"Really?" He asked.
"Oh, yes. Lucky daddy was there to save you, eh?" Scar replied, "and just between us three, you might want to work on that little roar of yours."
"Okay..."
"Wait, Uncle scar!" Amara called as the scrawny brown lion stalked away, "will we like the surprise!" He turned back to them with a smile.
"Oh, Amara, it's to die for." And with that he was off to fetch there father.
"What do you think the surprise is going to be?" Amara asked excitedly, jumping off of the rock.
"Dunno," Simba responded, his eyes fixed on a lizard that had climbed down from the tree that was hanging over him. He bared his teeth at it and parted his jaws in a tiny roar. The lizard didn't seemed fazed.
"Pffft, nice try," Amara teased him, following a white butterfly that was flying by into a ledge, "watch and learn." She stared hard at the butterfly, and drew back her lips in a snarl. She attempted a roar, but it came out no better than Simba's. Her brother didn't seem amused. The lizard continued to walk on. Simba, seeing his target escaping, leapt after it and attempted to roar again. This time it was a decent roar that echoed off of the stone. Suddenly the ground started shaking. Amara, confused, looked into the distance to see what was causing it. Her eyes widened and her blood turned to ice.
"SIMBA LOOK OUT!!" Amara called desperately. There was an earthquake, except it wasn't an earthquake. No, it was hundreds, maybe thousands, of hooves that were shaking the earth. Simba couldn't hear her over the noise, no matter how loud she yelled. Amara's vision was beginning to cloud with tears. She couldn't save him, that would be suicide. All she could do was watch as her twin brother was trampled to death. She watched in desperation as Simba tried to run away from the herd. He managed to stay ahead of them for a little while, but Amara knew he could never outrun all those wildebeests.
"SIMBA NO!!" Amara screamed at the top of her lungs, "SOMEBODY HELP!!" Just as she uttered those words she caught a glimpse of Mufasa jumping into the herd.
Thank our ancestors! She cried silently. But Amara also saw something that made her angry. She saw three hyenas at the top of a higher cliff, laughing. Every hair on her fur coat was filled to the brim with rage. For a moment she wondered if those were the same hyenas that attacked Simba when he went to the elephant graveyard.
Of course they are she decided why else would they try to kill him with a wildebeest stampede? Amara was fuming. If she could get her paws on those wretched little fur balls who tried to murder her brother twice..it wouldn't be pretty. She turned her focus back to her brother and father. Mufasa had now grasped Simba in his jaws and set him on the cliff Amara was on. She was about to ask him if he was ok, but Mufasa got swept away by the herd. She and Simba screamed themselves hoarse.
"DAD!!" She and Simba cried. Amara saw him in the distance, trying to climb back up the cliff where Scar was waiting.
"Brother" Mufasa cried, "help me!" To Amara's surprise, she saw Scar digging his claws into Mufasa's paws. She could've sworn she heard him utter the sly words:
"Long live the king." She saw Scar fling Mufasa back into the stampede.
"NOO!!" She And Simba cried.
Why uncle Scar? Amara thought why?. When the last of the herd left, Simba jumped down the stepping stones, too look for Mufasa, Amara presumed. She jumped down to follow him, trying to see through the clouds of dust that the wildebeests had kicked up. She only caught a glimpse of her father's golden body lying motionless on the ground before one of the smaller, slower wildebeests that had been from behind the heard came running at her clumsily from behind. Amara didn't even have time to scream before it hit her and everything went black.
