"Simba! Dad!" Amara gasped. She was startled to find a lion cub leaning over her, a worried expresssion on his face. Amara immediately recognized this cub as Xolo.
"Xolo?" Amara asked, wondering where she was and why Xolo was here.
"Good, your awake." Xolo replied, looking relieved. Amara soon realized she was lying on a leaf bed in her and Zira's favorite playing spot.
"Where's my dad?" She asked urgently, everything flooding back to her. The Hyenas, the stampede, the fear.
"He's dead." Xolo replied solemnly, turning his scarlet gaze to the ground "I found his body lying in the gorge."
"Wha-what about Simba?" Amara cried, still refusing to believe what she had just heard.
"I don't know ." Xolo replied "I didn't see a body."
"How did you know about the stampede?" Amara questioned him, getting a little suspicious.
"Zira told me, she was in the pride land visiting her new friend when it happened." Xolo answered her "The rumor was that you had died along with your father. I-I refused to believe it, so I went down there to see if it was...you know..true. I found your body lying not far from your father's," He continued, "I was about to be devastated, but when I went over there, I saw you breathing, so I brought you here." Amara didn't know what to think. She was devastated, but Xolo's comforting presence was enough to keep her from crying a waterfall of tears. Now evertything had fully come back to her, including the pain.
"OW my head!!" Amara cried, pressing her paws against her head as if it would help. Xolo dashed off and came back with a curved leaf full of water and a stick.
"Drink." Xolo said, pawing the leaf full of water over to her. Amara happily drank the cool water, realizing how thirsty she was. After that, Xolo instructed her bite on the stick.
"It will help distract you from the pain." He had said. Well, it distracted her from the physical pain, but the pain of losing her father and maybe her brother was still unbearable.
When Amara felt better, she proceeded to ask more questions.
"How long was I asleep?"
"About two days."
"Where's Zira?"
"She came to check on you before you woke up, I think she's off to see her friend again."
"What's her friends name?"
"She never told me, all I know is that he lives in the pride lands."
"Oh it's a he?" Amara said with a smirk.
"Yes." Xolo replied, sounding annoyed, "Its a He," Amara knew Xolo was thinking the same thing she was thinking, after all, boys are always protective of their little sisters.
"I'm sure it's nothing." Xolo went on "I mean, I don't know anything about this guy other than he's a male who lives in the pride lands." Amara nodded. There was an awkward silence for a while.
"I hear since Mufasa died, your uncle is king." My uncle.., Amara thought bitterly. Xolo must have noticed her gritting her teeth, because he asked,
"What's wrong?" Amara wasn't sure how much she should tell him, but his presence was so comforting to her that it didn't matter.
"Scar killed Mufasa."
