Ibn Jareer mentioned in his book of history that the birth of Ibrahim (as) was during the time of Namrud ibn Kinan who ruled for, it has been said, about 1000 years. He was at the height of his oppression and evilness.
.
Some of the historians have said that Namrud hailed from the tribe of Rasib, to which Noah (as) had been sent. Namrud ruled over the whole world at that time. It has also been said that once upon a time, there appeared a very bright star that hid the rays of the sun and the moon. This resulted in the deaths of many people and so Namrud became afraid. He gathered soothsayers and astrologers and sought advice regarding the situation. They said: "A person will be born among your people at whose hands will be the demise of your power." Thus, he ordered that men should not approach their wives and all newborns after that time should be killed.
.
Ibrahim (as) was born around that time, but Allah (swt) saved and protected him from the plan of the evildoers. He grew up and became a youth, after which Allah fulfilled through him what has been mentioned in the previous sections.
.
His birthplace was Susoos. However, it has also been said that He was born in Babylon or Sawad. According to Ibn Abbas (R.A), Ibrahim (as) was born in Bazrah in Eastern Damascus. After the destruction of Namrud's kingdom at the hands of Ibrahim, he migrated to Hiran and then to Syria. He had two sons, Ismail and Ishaq (may Allah's peace be upon them). His wife Sarah passed away before him in a town near Hebron, in the land of Kinan. Her age at the time of death was 127 years according to the Bible. Ibrahim became very sad at her death and after buying land from 'Afroon ibn Sakhr for 400 mithqal, he buried her there.
.
The first child to be born to Ibrahim was Ismail from his wife Hajar.
Then, he had Ishaq from his wife Sarah, who was his paternal cousin.
After her death, Ibrahim (as) married another woman called Qantoorah and had children from her. They were Zamran, Yaqshan, Madan, Shiyaq and Shooh.
Then he married Hajoon, who gave birth to five children. They were Kaysan, Sooraj, Umaym, Lootan, and Nafis.
.
This is how it has been mentioned by Abul-Qasim as-suhayli in his book titled At-Ta'reef wal-a'lam.
.
The historians have mentioned that afterwards, Ibrahim became ill and died at the age of 175 years. In another opinion, it has been said that his age was 195 years.
His sons, Ismail and Ishaq, buried him near his wife Sarah's grave, in Hebron.
.
His grave and the graves of Ishaq (as) and Yaqoob (as) are located in the square built Sulaiman in Hebron. It is know today as the city of Khaleel, which approves that his grave in that city. However, the exact location of the grave within that city is not known since we do not have anything authentically reported from the Prophet (pbuh). Therefore, the whole square where he is buried should be respected by everyone.
