Saturday

"It looks gorgeous on you, more than i could have imagined."

Alex commented as she finished zipping my dress up, i looked in the mirror, awestruck by the sight in front of me. Its not that i expected Alex to disappoint but this dress was way beyond my imagination, the silky red fabric clung to every curve of my body and then looked like some sort of mermaid tail at the end. The back was only covered with tiny gold chains that were connected to the gold designs around the waist, the dress was not going to do justice to the serious business-like persona i wanted to potray.

"This is gorgeous Alex but don't you think its a bit too much, i mean who is going to take me seriously with a slit like that?" I asked turning away from the mirror to look at her, she was dressed in a long navy blue dress, a piece from her new collection, she looked good but  hasn't she always?

"You look great and besides this is more of a party than a business meeting" she told me as she strolled over to my jewellery box to look for any piece of jewelly that would go well with the dress.

A knock on the door snapped out my thoughts, i looked over at Alex who in turn gave me a questioning look, i knew that i was not expecting anyone up here, Craig had left me and Alex to get ready whilst he entertained some of his friends that had travelled from all over the country for this event.

"Mrs Daniels?"

someone outside the door called and i instantly recognised the voice, it was Paloma our head maid .

"Yes Paloma, you may enter" I said slipping on my the shoes Alex had brought with the dress.

"Sorry to interupt maam but the mass of the guests have arrived and Mr Daniels requests your presence downstairs." she said as she stepped into the room.

Paloma was the oldest maid in the house, she had watched Craig become the man he is today and for that i had great respect for her, she knew how to mind her own business as well as voice her opinions in important matters. I admired her as women for her caring nature, ever since i started living with Craig she had been more of a mother to me than my own mother had been, she had never been judgemental but instead treated me with the respect as the lady of the house.

"Thank you, Paloma, I will be down shortly" I told her as Alex handed me a golden bracelet to wear.

Paloma moved towards the door and before she left her eyes swept my profile and she smile
"You look stunning mija" and with that she left.

i smiled at the endearment, she always called me that when she was feeling slightly proud of me, she told me that my stubbornness reminded her of the daughter she left in Mexico and that is why she mostly reffered to me as her daughter.

"We should head down now" I told Alex who had been sipping on her wine in silence for the past few minutes.

"Before you get drunk as well" I said dragging her up.

"Oh come on, why not start celebrating our success immediately" she placed the glass down and fixed her dress.

"You ready K?" she asked the moment she noticed my nerves starting up, i quickly grabbed the bottle of wine and took a long sip to calm the nerves i have nothing to worry about i kept reminding myself.

"Ready as i will ever be".

Alex went ahead without me, telling me that my dress needed a grand entrance and thats exactly what i intended to do. Blowing out a large breath i began making my way downstairs to join the party, the only thing that could be heard as i was making my way down the halls were my heels and possibly my beating heart. I was so nervous, my entire future was on the line and one night, one decision could completely ruin it, all the time and heart i had invested in this to have it ruined would kill me and hell i was too young to die.
