"Rose. Sweetie, wake up. We have a meeting with the guardians in 20 minutes." I'd already had a shower- it was her turn.

"We? Novices aren't let into these things." She mused, sleepily rubbing her eyes.

"Yes, we. Alberta wants your 'input'" I hoped she'd catch on. She didn't disappoint.

"She knows?"

"Yes. I told her while you were still out like a light on my hip."

"Dimitri! I don't want anyone else knowing! You know how gossip is a plague around here!"

"Rose- you know the Guardians and Kirova need to know."

"Comrade. It's barely 2 days old and I'm struggling enough with the fact, never mind the side effects. Ugh. Get me donuts and French toast while I have a shower."

"I'll be back by the time you're out. Don't forget your hair." I kissed her forehead and left to get her food.

"Guardian Belikov" Lissa greeted formally, headed to the cafeteria.

"Princess" I nodded, returning the formal tone.

"Dimitri, it's Lissa" she elegantly groaned.

"Formalities Lissa" I said politely. Guardian mask firmly in place.

"Where's Rose? I haven't seen her for days. You either for that matter." It wasn't accusatory, just genuine, innocent curiosity. Interesting, those two were joined at the hip before the bond according to the stories, so why didn't she suspect. Was Rose hiding her heart from her best friend? Hmmm.

"We got called back out to the Badicas'."

"The attack? Is what they're saying true? All dead, 7 Strigoi and humans?"

"Unfortunately, yes. Sorry Princess."

"Is anywhere safe Guardian Belikov?"

"I don't know Princess." I grabbed Roses food and something for myself.

"That looks like Roses sort of breakfast Dimitri" Liss lightened a little with a gentle laugh.

"Yes, the French toast and donuts are her order. We came back last night and she had to sleep in Guardian Petrovs' office. We have a meeting she's been invited to."

"I'll let you go- her stomach is legendary. Her days and moods rotate around food." With that I headed back.

"Thanks comrade! I've got the answer to the question that will be asked at the meeting! It's going to be accepted and the kids will love it. As will most parents. Only issue is my mother turns up." What was she going on about?

"Christmas break comrade! What to do for the holiday!"

"So?"

"Wait and see" she teased.

"Why'd you clue me in then?!"

"Cause I was excited. It's a good one too. Going to be fun!"

Two and a half hours later and I was impressed. A ski trip! She'd foreseen a ski trip! Convincing Kirova and co to agree required them accepting her gift. And a little Rose logic. It got through. We were going the day after Christmas, for 2 weeks. God, that woman never ceased to amaze me.

She was right when her mother turned up in her theory class 3 days later. This was the class instructed by Stan. Even I could see this wasn't going to end well.

She had warned me she had seen her mother in that class but couldn't see the students reactions to what her mother was going to talk about. This made me uneasy and she knew it!

"Comrade" she warned. "I can see your "try to stay in control" coming. And I promise to try. Shit! Not again. Comrade. Pull me out of class the second I raise my hand. It won't end well if you don't." Oh shit! What had she seen?

Two hours later and I knew. The others' reactions to her mothers tale was putting her on edge. The second her hand shot up I discretely removed her from the room. Or so I'd thought. The stares we could ignore the "Rosemarie" and "Guardian Belikov" we could not. I kept a firm grip on Roses' wrist as a reminder to stay calm. All I got was a "not again" and a look I'd come to recognise as her prophecy expression. "Comrade. Get me out of here! Now!" And I did. I got her out into the hall and into a janitors closet before she broke down.
