Liar (Poem)

I'm a liar, we both know that.

But for you, this truth I'll tell:

It's for you that I've been lying,

all along this path to hell.

I'm a coward, we both know that.

But I've got the strength to say:

It's for you that I've been fighting

all along this lonely way.

I'm broken, we both know that.

But for you I will admit:

It's you I want to heal me

with a single look, a single kiss.

And when a liar tells the truth

and a coward looks you in the eye

you know this winding road we walk

is the last before I die.

Love, I never was afraid.

I think you knew I lied.

Because somehow every night you knew

when I lay awake and cried.

I know you won't believe me

(We've both learned not to trust)

but I was who I will be--

this isn't, and never was.

So now you understand

that this is my goodbye

and my single last command

is love, don't dare cry.
