All that we did in the heat of summer

A picture flashes through my mind
A sunny field filled with goldenrods
Laying down just soaking in the sun
Spinning around in that old sundress that you adored
All that we did in the heat of summer fades away
Now it's cold
Cold as the ice that freezes my soul
You left and now I'm here
In the same field but now it's filled with dead roots and snow
Curled up on the ground shivering in the cold
Bundled up in coats
Wiping away tears with the sleeve of the hoodie that once belonged to you
All that we did in the heat of summer slowly dies
Now it's cold
Now I'm here alone
Where you are I'll never know
But I will remember
all that we did in the heat of summer
