Olivia stood beside Polly and Ada Shelby as they waited for the train to come in returning their loved ones that they hadn't seen in years. A small hand grasping her own. Her nerves running would at the thought of seeing him again.
Her and Thomas Shelby had known each other since they were babies. Growing up the two were inseparable. When you saw one the other was bound to be nearby.
At 12, they had been each others first kiss and exchanged them throughout the years. At 16, they had decided that it was better if they slept with someone they trusted for the first time than someone else. Their relationship only bloomed after that until the news of war began to spread.
Deep down the couple knew what would happen next and decided to take another big step. They married at 18 and spent two years together before Tommy, his brothers and Olivia's brother would join the war. Not wanting to have to constantly worry, Olivia opted to become a nurse and served two years before coming home.
In the three years she had been back her life had drastically changed. She had become a mother of a beautiful girl she named Sara. But that's not the thing that haunts her, no, her secret went deeper than the surface. It was a secret that would remain among the Shelby woman for as long as possible.
Now she stood awaiting her husband's return with something that would change their lives. Her only questions were how to tell him and how would he react?
Thomas Shelby entered the war a boy and left a damaged man. He had seen many things and done many things. Now he had to deal with all of that going on in his head.
While away, he often thought about his wife, Olivia and how she was coping with everything. She was never one to sit back and do nothing and was not surprised when she signed up as a nurse. Her service was shorter than his however sending her back home where he was grateful that she was safe.
The two had been together for as long as he could remember. But the romance side of their relationship only began to show in their teens. He remembered that when they first heard of the war, it was only a matter of time before it reached their corner of the world. And he didn't want to leave her hanging for anyone to take so he married her. Their young love was bliss until he was greeted with the harsh realities of the world.
Now he sat in a cab with his brothers and brother in law on the way back to their hometown. His mind drifting off to how the Shelby women have taken the last five years.
The train had finally stopped after their long distant journey as the men all piled out. The group strode along looking for any sign of their family. John pointed them out first before picking up his pace to greet them.
Tommy's eyes settled on his aunt Pol before shifting to his sister, who had grown since the last time he saw her. His eyes finally connected with hers as he studied her features. A sudden movement caught his eyes making him glanced down.
