❝Ashton❞

After leaving the stuck up atmosphere of the cocktail party, we sit all alone on a park bench. We sip graciously at the bottle of wine that we snagged before we left.
"Where did you say you were from again?" I ask as I hold the bottle in my hands.

"New York. I moved here about a month ago for my job." She smiles lightly.

"What do you do?" I look intently into her eyes.

"I'm actually a journalist. I write for a magazine here."

As I learn more about her, the less I want to make her another conquest of mine. I don't usually get to know any of the girls I meet. I just sleep with them. But she is different. She is so much more.

I lose myself in thought and find myself staring intently onto the glistening lake that we sit in front of. I watch as the water ripples, completely focused on its movement. On change. Am I changing?

I'm to the point where I can't focus on anything anymore. I'm lost in my thoughts. Until she abruptly yanks me out with a snap and repeated utterances of my name.

"I asked you a question, Ashton." She laughs.

"What? I'm sorry." I feel my cheeks heat up with embarrassment.

"Do you want to come back to my place?"

"Sure."
