I remember the first time I met Butch's mom, I didn't like her instantly. I love Butch's dad; he reminded me so much of my own but Gwen is just another case.
She is like a stuck up b*tch, a snub, a high society prissy, a show off. I tried to impress her, I put on make up, I did a fancy up do, I didn't cuss, I tried my best to be respectful but she was just...a bitch.
I wondered how some one as nice as Butch's dad could end up with her. But he loves her, he told me himself.
After our little awkward dinner, he had pulled me aside to talk to me.
"Sorry about my wife's behavior, she can be difficult."
We were strolling in the hallway of their mansion. It was weird how Butch grew up in a mansion and decided to want to start a family in a small house. It wasn't small per say but it isn't what you expect a millionaire to live in.
I nodded to him and he continued talking.
"She isn't always like that, she is just on high alert about the people we bring into our lives."
"Why? Do I look like some kind of gold digger or something like that? I mean you already love me so why can't she?"
"I don't love you..." I stopped, so did he. I stared directly into his eyes and grinned, he broke the eye contact and chuckled. "Okay, yet."
"Awwwnnn, we are getting somewhere." I latched onto his arm and we continued walking.
"My son has...how do I put this," he thought for a while then settled with, "well you are different from the other girls he brings home."
"He has introduced other women to you guys," I couldn't hide the sadness in my voice.
"More like they introduced themselves. Its either one comes to visit when he isn't home or they are leaving his bedroom."
"Oh."
He rubbed my hand and I smiled a little, "My wife believes if you aren't as rich as us or in her country club, you are just after our money. We weren't always this rich, we strived together to get to were we are, Gwen was always by me supporting me and she still is. She knows the suffer and she doesn't want anyone taking shortcuts to have what we have."
"Are you trying to explain to me how she is portraying this tough cookie act but on the inside she is a marshmallow."
He laughed wholeheartedly, it reminded me of Butch's laugh making me miss him instantly. "She is a tough cookie but not with family."
"Then we are similar," I gasped, "does that mean if Butch and I have kids I would be like her... Ugh, no."

Staring into those black eyes brought the whole conversation to mind. She sipped her latte -which I knew was latte because I don't think she drinks coffee- without taking her eyes of me.

"What are you doing in my house?" I asked not trying to sound rude but i'm very sure I did.

"Last I remembered this is also my sons house and there is nothing wrong with a mother wanting to visit her son especially when his wife is pregnant."

"So you don't mind the baby isn't a Chiwawa or a Labrador?" I wrapped my hand around my tummy.

She chuckled, "I see your humour hasn't left you, besides," she got comfy on the couch, crossing her legs further, "if you were to give birth to a dog I would have you burnt for practicing witchcraft."

"So you don't think i'm a witch, because I know that's the only way you think I could get your son to love me."

"Oh, don't get me wrong, I do think you're a witch. I would just have the proof of it."

Her comeback left me speechless -respect-I opened my mouth for a rebuttal but no words came out. I sighed and started walking to the kitchen. I was suddenly craving a smoothie.
The blender killed the sound of Gwen's heels as she made her way to the kitchen.

"I can see you're eating healthy," she picked a banana and rinsed it in the sink before she stuffed her mouth.

"I never knew banana's were meant to be rinsed."
To be truthful I've never rinsed a banana in my life, I know I have seen Butch do it a few times but my mom didn't teach me to eat a banana that way.
"That's one thing Butch needs to teach you."

I eyed her a little while I put the straw in my mouth, this is officially our most awkward conversation ever.
"You know, you don't always have to blend everything together, just like chips and dip."
"Huh." I wasn't actually confused about what she was saying but the fact she was giving me advice without actually chastising me.

"Here let me show you."

She took another banana then washed it before she pealed the peel, then dipped it in yoghurt. She brought it to my mouth but I just froze, I couldn't open my mouth because I couldn't believe what was happening.
Butch's mom who i'm very sure dislikes me is trying to feed me banana dipped in yoghurt.
I guess Jake Rivers was right, she is a marshmallow on the inside.

A look of hurt flashed across her face, "you don't have to-"
I held her hand and bit out of if, she immediately smiled proudly and didn't bother to cover it up with a poker face.
"Taste good doesn't it."
I nodded and smiled, it did taste marvelous, "so you are telling me I can dip my finger in cocoa, then in yoghurt then lick it off."

"No, actually-"

I squealed, "you are the best." I jumped on her for a hug, I just found another way to tease Butch, am so gonna eat a banana in his presence.
Wait, we're hugging. I'm hugging Gwen Rivers, Butch's mom, the woman that...OK I can't say that because she is my husband's mother.
I felt her shoulders relax and her hands came to my back.

"I can't believe you're warming up to me." I said to her.

"I thought we can at least try to be friends. This might actually work out." The sound of footsteps caught our attention.

"Oh no," I broke out of the hug to face the intruder, "forget what I said, this can't work out, because of her."

I wished I had a camera to record the interaction.

"Gwen, good to see you."

"I wish I could say the same Dollie."
