the brutality of breaking
at the hands
of someone
you once trusted
will never cease to stun me.
first, the betrayal
seeps into your pores
and finds a way
into your bloodstream.
the searing pain
deep within your bones
soon follows.
your mind becomes a casualty
in a war
you didn't realise
you were fighting.
and when your heart shatters
even when it's
safely inside your ribcage,
hope slips through your fingers
and your blood turns to ash.
this agony
won't last forever,
though.
the searing pain
will wither away.
an armistice
will be written
and the war will end.
hope will appear again
in the sunlight.
and one day,
the sky
is going to clear
&
you will feel
whole
again.
