Jeremy’s house was so large it almost felt empty with just the two of us in it. It needed something to give it life, something that would make it vibrant. For now, I simply had a plan for what I was to do.
As we entered his home I gently sat myself down on the sofa. He sat next to me.
“How about some video games? I bet I can beat you at Sonic.” I challenged. He scoffed.
“As if! I’m pro at that game.”
“Ha. You’re on.”
I grabbed two controllers and put the game into the Wii, starting Sonic Adventure 2 Battle’s two player mode up. We played on all our favourite maps and courses such as City Escape and Radical Highway, and in the end I beat him at the tie breaker.
“In your face! I told you I could beat you.” I teased, and we laughed nonstop. I shut the Wii off and fell back into his arms, laughing all the way down. I felt his gorgeous merriment vibrate onto my back and it sent love pulsing through me.
“That was awesome.” He chuckled, twirling my hair lightly.
“Yep.”
“I knew you’d beat me. You’re way too amazing at that game for your own good.”
“I know! I was a hardcore Sonic Adventurer when I was younger. Me and my cousins used to grind experience from it from sitting on it for days straight just playing.”
“Nerd.”
“Hush, you. Anyway, what was it you wanted to tell me?”
He stopped twirling my hair. I screamed at him from the inside to carry on, but he sat me up and stared deeply at me.
I was entranced by his beautiful brown eyes, the colour of rich chocolate, framed with a sparkle. They were packed with such emotion and depth that I couldn’t tear myself away from his gaze.
“Ember, I...”
“Just say it. I will always listen to you.”
Jeremy sighed. “I just need to get it out. It’s been so long, I just...can’t hide it anymore. Ember, I’m...I’m in love with you.”
I couldn’t breathe.
He was confessing his love to me, right there. And I could only think of one reply.
“I love you too...”
“I just, I don’t know how to expl- wait, what did you just say?” The dumbfounded look on his face punched a laugh out of me. He was so damn cute and I loved him so much.
“I said, I love you too, Mr Jeremiah Wade McKinnon.”
I got away with saying his full name (which he resented highly) because he was so happily shocked at my reply.
“I-I...don’t know what to say...I thought you liked Neil?”
I rolled my eyes. “No. I told everyone that so I could hide my feelings for you, because I didn’t know you liked me. But Kellin pointed out all the things you do for me and around me, and then I sub consciously realised...and now this.”
“...” Jeremy stayed silent, just staring at my face. I was still breathless that he liked me. I couldn’t believe it. This had to be the greatest day of my life so far. First Rosie and Alex, and now Jeremy’s confession.
“What’s wrong now?”
“Can...can I do something?” He asked sheepishly.
“Sure.”
He was suddenly very close to me, and right then and there I’d never wanted him more in my life.
And then Jeremy McKinnon was kissing me.
